Topic: Is it really "wrong" to not want to get married?
Anonymous A started this discussion 14 years ago#23,249
Logic is against marriage:
1. Most marriages end in divorce
2. While a "successful" marriage extends one's life expectancy, a divorce shortens it. Hence, marrying will, on average, shorten one's life.
Hence, marriage will, on average, result in a shorter and more unpleasant life.
Was married and it was terrific. When it stops being terrific you just move on.
So lets assume you meet someone nice really nice and don't marry her. Done that been there. But then they move in cause well its more convenient. But then they want to get married and you cannot blame them.
She says dude make a baaaaaaayyyyyybeeee with me. At three year point she went too far trying to push me into marriage. I told part of that story here not long ago - Included he two Swat teams and Homicide cops and 3 different police forces.
OP deal is - Between Birth and Death there sure is one hell of a lot of fun to be had and sure some heartache. I still miss much about her but it was just time to move on. Even with a restraining order she stalked me while I was on my first new date. Car chase going wrong way on one way streets in downtown LA - Action right out of a movie it was.

@363,941 (TheSheep !kJ.A4PF7.k) > You pulled these numbers out of your ass (or they are only related to the USA, so it comes to the same as pulling out of your ass)
OP is correct > 1. Most marriages end in divorce
Sweden fail #1 USA #2 54.8% UK #12 42.6% Fail
3 Charts just ask to see. India has the lowest divorce rate in world. (Surprised me)

Agree but unless you live in Sri Lanka or Republic of Macedonia, and few here do, you probably will have a very high chance of getting the chance for a 2nd and even 11th marriage. One of my best friends now dead from drinking was married 11 times - Met 9 of his wives and he remained good friends with each of the X's and all super good looking gals. Imagine the alimony and child care costs on 10 wives cause he remained married to #10 when he died. ---Gotta run but he was Canadian and need to look that up on list when I get back from Breakfast.
Gives mySelf away again and only cause I am off to a Breakfast party re Election in USA today - 3 different hosts - One for Breakfast One for Lunch and I host the Dinner Party - Nothing fancy except for the Crab legs and they will run out real fast. Lots of Champagne and a small keg - Arrogant Bastard Ale

But your analogy is a bag of dicks in my eyes, and I dont want my life to be a bag of dicks.
It's like saying you're in the wild west, and someone challenges you to a duel. Got your revolver loaded up, but you'd rather die with a full revolver than even try to take a shot... I mean, what are the ods you'll kill him and not the other way around?
I'll take my shot...

I love how all of the posts against marriage actually reference statistics and evidence, while all of the posts for focus on minutiae about the phrasing or just attack a convenient target.

Well not everyone discover's they're gay and has an affair while married.
Marriage works when people are nice to one another regardless of their emotional whims. If the only thing holding two people together is chaotic emotion, then once that stops, the marriage stops.

Gay? Gay? The gal I had the affair with became Pregnant by yours truly. Her husband was shooting blanks. Anon I just because you're gay does not mean very many other people ARE.

In my case there was no chaos or arguments of any kind. Perhaps if there was .....Not sure how to finish that thought but if anything there was just calm calm too much calm and that in fact is why my marriage failed. I needed to move on. But I met and fell in love with a terrific gal and we sure did a lot such as it was she that talked me into Climbing Mountains. It was when the Climbing Mountains came to an end --- nor have I ever explained it that way but its so so true.

Not really and is not he banned from her for pouring salt on open wounds?
Grrrrrrrr I had some nice plans for next few hours and now a new Satellite alarm begging for attention and this kind of alarm always takes a few hours of baby sitting to deal with.
No way to even play here for 48mins 44 seconds.
