They are unacceptable and I would unfriend someone IRL & on failbook if there was conclusive proof that they used such terms.
If it was a dear friend I might try to get them to acknowledge how insensitive those words are and suggest they use terms like "loid" (short for mongoloid) or "window-licker" for our mentally handicapped friends and "careless fairy" or "AIDs magnet" for our homosexual acquaintances.
I hope this helps you and your personal relationships to flourish while still being sensitive to people different from yourself.
