Summary of Incident
On December 27, 2002, in Gregg County, Texas, Swain broke into a residence with the intent to steal money. While the burglary was in progress, the victim, a forty-four year old white female, returned home. After a struggle, Swain struck the victim in the head with a tire tool and placed her body in the trunk of her car. He transported her body to an abandoned car and placed her in the trunk. Swain returned to the home and stole money, jewelry and credit/debit cards.
sad. he killed a white woman. his mistake was killing her, he could have looked at her gruffly and she'd probably have passed out from fear. he's black, why didn't he just scare her and run away?

fair point, my OP was a little insensitive and racially biased. he was only 23 at the time, had his whole life ahead of him and he made a bad, bad mistake. i'll try to show a little more class here. he'll still be executed though.

Anyone human that murders another in cold blood should be put to death.
What irks me is this story I read on PYSIH.com a while ago.

Just because it didnn't happen in Texas doesn't mean they shouldn't be given the death penalty.

i'm just saying that the reason they weren't given the death penalty is because they weren't in Texas. shit like that doesn't fly here.

I really don't understand this thinking. Why shouldn't he? Moreover when did it become OK to decide who "gets" to live?

His mistake was killing a woman. And a white woman? Shit, he must have a death wish.

I never made that argument. I just said i'd show some class and not make jokes about him being black. Don't worry, he'll still be executed.

whew, with all the election hoopla i almost forgot about this thread. don't worry, we didn't miss it.
A man who was sentenced to die in the fatal beating, stabbing and strangling of an East Texas call center supervisor a decade ago displayed a pattern of obsession and violence that a former district attorney said indicated the potential of a serial killer.
Mario Swain has since lost state and federal appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court last month refused to review his case. Swain, 33, is scheduled for execution Thursday.
At trial, prosecutors presented evidence and witnesses that showed a pattern of crimes: Swain gathered information about women he wanted to rob, then attacked them, forcing them to inhale the anesthetic halothane and hitting them over the head with a wrench or shooting them with a stun gun.
"Not only did he stalk, he started making physical assaults," Larison said.
"Girlfriends told us he loved to watch detective shows, crime science shows, that he was fascinated by them," he said. "He would keep lists of women's cars and certain license plates."
He was "a serial killer in training," the prosecutor said.
and after thursday be sure to checkout next weeks executions. i use the plural because next week is a two fer.

I heard on the radio the execution is tonight. Apparently he's all out of appeals. I think the last guy bit it around 6pm. That means mario here probably only has a couple of hours left to live. Hurry up and vote.

he's got less than 20 minutes.
In Texas, Mario Swain, 33, was convicted of murdering Lola Nixon, 44, during a 2002 burglary at her Longview home.
When Nixon returned home, he bludgeoned her with a tire tool, stabbed her and likely strangled her, according to an account by the Texas attorney general's office.
Swain put Nixon in the trunk of her car, drove her to a field and left her there barely conscious. He led investigators to an abandoned car with Nixon's body inside, the account said.
Investigators connected Swain to a truck parked on Nixon's street the night she went missing. Swain first accused two other men of the crime, but both had alibis.
Swain's execution by lethal injection is scheduled to take place after 6 p.m. CST (midnight GMT) at the state prison in Huntsville.
