I know such has been said. I spent a great deal of time during those 10 years, in Afghanistan. In my (inside opinion) we were not willing to help anyone in Afghanistan for any reason whatsoever**. We most certainly helped re the left equipment which included crated missiles, to down aircraft. The one saving grace was-is, a very short life span of a critical part. So best guess is that very few of the many left worked when they tried them and there was no way to fix that unique part-item.
Ben Laden did end up buying off the shelf a set of Globalstar Satellite cell phones. He stopped using them for fear of Geo location. Ones he had were limited to 10KM re Geo. New models of course are even more accurate for Geo location then any other phone on the market.
**Afgans loved us and then hated USA for leaving in a flash after Russia left and that is was a terrible shame because Taliban and all the Tribes loved us back then.

When I see politicians debating foreign policy it's hard to take too seriously because there are so few situations where we didn't just colossally fuck it up. Which in turn gives me near zero faith in the Iran deal.

This one case of USA stepping in to help is documented in a Movie' Charlie Wilson, and also History Channel did a good job telling the story. One hell of a Texas Congressman and his girlfriend who helped out in unique ways. You can look it up on Wiki - I need to see what Wiki says myself to see if its accurate.

Joe makes a strong damn case for not attacking Iran on one hand, but on the other hand he seems to be mostly saying "well at least they're not Pakistan". I feel bad for the people of Iran, not to say they are all angels or whatever. Like in a lot of countries, the people do not always share the sentiments of the their government.
