Topic: Why is Romney failing so hard?

Meta !PARAdoxiHw started this discussion 14 years ago #22,874

Is there that much love for Obama still? Did the 47% remarks really offend people that much? I'm honestly amazed with Obama's record that he's in the lead. I'm not saying Romney would do better, but how does Obama still have the lead with the past 4 years?

buspup !!x+kkCmnF4 joined in and replied with this 14 years ago, 2 minutes later[^] [v] #358,601

Of course people were offended. he discounted half of the nation, most of which were children, the elderly, and enlisted people.

@previous (buspup !!x+kkCmnF4)
But the remark was taken out of context; he didn't dismiss them as people, he just said that he couldn't change their minds and his efforts were better directed on those who were undecided. And it's true. Obama could rightfully say that he would never be able to change the minds of the 47% of Americans who are religious right wingers and/or birther nutjobs.

Romney was a lower-tier candidate back in 2008. He was never a terribly strong candidate. He has just been embraced as the least objectionable guy to try for election against an incumbent during a shitty year.

Also his party is trying to ban abortion, even though that directly contributes to poverty in America. This poverty hurts the children the most.

They also want to cut pbs and the head start program. Who uses these? poor children.

Also, one of his kids used a surrogate (which Mitt paid for) and part of the contract was that if the kid ends up fucked up, that it would be aborted. So its okay for him, but not everyone else.

@OP

Neither Obama nor Romney have passed the 50% acceptance mark, NOT one single time in the race. So neither meets the Love necessary to win the Popular vote Yet.

-Romney was behind in every important case until Obama fucked up the first debate. Romney - Obama are now in a VERY TIGHT CLOSE RACE Currently, but that is only true if you look at just the Popular Vote.

Romney has never been close in the Electoral College race. Interesting confusion on that, if one looks at Real Clear Politics which currently shows
Romney/Ryan 206 Obama/Biden 201 Toss Ups 131 (RCP sets a high bar for one to move in either direction)

That 206 holds for Romney is at least a dozen other Poll tracking E-College web sites (Those highly respected) One exception below.

Obama runs from 237 to 288.6 . The site that gives Obama 288.6 gives Romney a uniquely high 249.4 and that site had the most accuracy in 2004-08

> but how does Obama still have the lead with the past 4 years?

One could write a book on that question which would be tl;dr So it can be as simple as looking at the currently most import Swing states Ohio Romney wrote that Op-Ed in New York Times making the case for Bankruptcy for GM and Chrysler. Ohio is pissed about one aspect of the bail out, however they also know there was no possibility of any private financing to cover a bankruptcy.

Many can give other answers on Why Obama is so far ahead with the E-College vote. I am just giving one answer where it counts the most currently.

It does. Poverty affects children the most, and unwanted pregnancies are one of the biggest causes of poverty for women.

ar ar ar I love how you think that its better for children to grow up suffering from poverty, being mistreated by parents who resent them, or being abused in the foster care system rather than disposing of a clump of cells. No wonder America doesnt have slews of children in the system, and high rates of child abuse, and murder. Oh wait...

I mean, you even have members of the Republican Christian right (Pat Robertson) who actually go on tv and tell people not to bring orphans into their homes, because they are damaged goods. They are aginst birth control, and abortion, but then they tell people not to adopt! While doing all of this, they claim to have superior morals! lololol Oh man, I'm spent. Thank you for this.

I'll look for it tomorrow. I'm about to go to bed. One more thing before I do though. I've had a similar argument with this same poster, and he tried to tell me that America didnt have a lot of unwanted children in the system, because supposedly in his country, they dont have enough abandoned children for people to adopt! I love it.

@359,120 (G)
This morning on the 700 Club's regular segment "Bring It On," in which horrible people ask other horrible people how to continue being horrible people, a man asked Pat Robertson how to work things out with his wife who "has no respect for [him] as head of the house." Pat Robertson responded, unblinking:

Well you could become a muslim and you could beat her.

Whole seconds pass before Pat chuckles as if he were kidding (which, as it becomes clear, he is not) and continues to deep-throat his own foot:

Somebody's gotta stand up to her, and he can't let her get away with this stuff... I don't think we condone wife-beating these days, but something's gotta be done to make her—

"Not physically, of course," co-host Terry Meeuwsen tries to redirect before Robertson goes on to to diagnose this man's "rebellious" wife with some sort of weird pre-Oedipal, temper tantrum, "unwilling to submit to authority" type thing. "What do you do with that?"

You can't divorce her, according to the scripture. MOVE TO SAUDI ARABIA.

And then he swallowed.

It goes to the House of Representatives who vote for the candidate. It's happened twice that I know of. The first in 1824, the second in 1876. The election of 1876 should remind you of some other recent election in a year starting with the number 2 and ending with the numbers 000.

November 2008 presidential election predictions -- 538 correctly predicted the winner of 49 of the 50 states — only state he missed was Indiana, which went for Barack Obama by 1%. He also correctly predicted the winner of all 35 Senate races that year.

BIRTHDAY DUDE ASH - In USA both candidates can lose and or tie NOR does it have to end up in House of Representatives. Popular Vote currently has Nada to do with a Win - Its all about the Electoral College - I only learned yesterday that there is a planned end to that, without changing the US Constitution - trickery yet looks cool and could happen just after 2016.
