Topic: PS2 won't read discs.

Catherine !TGirlYJKXM started this discussion 14 years ago #22,858

Image went missingMy PS2 won't read any discs and I was wondering what the problem might be. I figured that the lens might be dusty so can someone recommend some good lens cleaner discs or some advice on how to get my system operational again?

Get a console that isn't old. Thanks.

@OP
The laser has a finite life span. You can try cleaning it with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, but if it's not reading anything it's likely died.

There is a pretty good step-by-step (with pictures) on disassembly and cleaning the drive/lens here about a quarter of the way down the page if you feel adventurous.

crack open the case and there will be a black case over the disc drive, unscrew and lift that and the laser is near the top

unless it's slimline in which case idk

My ps2 still works, I use it to watch DVDs sometimes. But as time goes by, the less it can read.

I found that for slim models, all you'd need to do is clean it with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

Can someone confirm this?
