My PS2 won't read any discs and I was wondering what the problem might be. The laser has a finite life span. You can try cleaning it with some rubbing alcohol and a q-tip, but if it's not reading anything it's likely died.

crack open the case and there will be a black case over the disc drive, unscrew and lift that and the laser is near the top

My ps2 still works, I use it to watch DVDs sometimes. But as time goes by, the less it can read.

I found that for slim models, all you'd need to do is clean it with a Q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
