For me, the most striking scene in Downton Abbey on Sunday was the one with the “feather girls†– women who, during the First World War, would approach any man who hadn’t joined up and present him with a white feather, symbolising cowardice. Lady Edith Crawley (played by Laura Carmichael) sided with the feather girls: “When heroes are giving their lives every day, it’s hard to watch healthy young men doing nothing.†http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/8774295/White-Feather-women-didnt-impress-those-at-the-Front.html

To be fair, Sarkeesian's arguments are pretty questionable in some ways, for example using games like Little Big Planet (a game which has virtually no emphasis on gender) to demonstrate sexism in video games. There are legitimate criticisms to be made of her methodology.
The problem is that those MRA types reacted so loudly and stupidly that they gave her massive publicity, basically shooting themselves in the foot and drowning out any legitimate criticism. The idiots.

@357,023 (buspup !!x+kkCmnF4) > Also, women and children are not considered to be a threat to soldiers, and can be used for fucking and baby making.
This sentence was a little disturbing for me to read.
"I delve into how LEGO shifted their products from their initial relatively, gender neutral building experience to a more male dominated and male identified one. The LEGO group intentionally did this in three ways: 1. Marketing exclusively to boys, 2. Producing male identified and centered themes and sets and 3. Focusing on stereotypical boys play scenarios with an emphasis on combat. The strong focus on boys has effectively kicked girls out of the LEGO club house."
"I have been quite vocal in my little internet space about my strong dislike for SlutWalk, for the name and for the unstrategic organizing which sadly, seems to ignores the systemic and institutional issues of rape culture, victim blaming and well, radical feminism. It is easy to be swept up in the excitement and momentum of SlutWalk and not take a critical look at what the message really is that’s coming out of these marches. After listening to a series of interviews and reading a handful of articles, I began feeling alienated within feminism because as Meghan Murphy points out, “… embracing the word slut sounds, to me, a lot like we’ve all drank the systematic kool-aid.†"
Also in her christmas song one she complained loudly because Mariah Carey would like the boy she fancies for christmas, and also the character of the mother in "I saw mommy kissing santa clause" for having sex with Santa (even if it just happens to be the father in a costume). these perpetuate rape culture or some shit

this is more than likely because more boys were buying than girls than because the ceos one day thought 'i have a idea, we should totally reduce the appeal of our product to people who are buying said product'. i mean like, companies want money. take hasbro. mlp advertises to only little girls, because little girls are the only ones interested. then all of a sudden it is an internet fad with college age men and all kinds of things aimed towards them spring up within a year. the audience came first, not the marketing.

no, but it has the non-truth of suggesting that lego did it because of sexism rather than because they did not want to haemorrhage money. it is reasonable for a company to aim towards those who actually buy the product, but then that leaves feminist frequency with no foothold. so she constructs one. to me this counts as a lie, and even if it didn't it would still make me think less of this person and would make me not want to associate with them.
edit: it does not even have to be a feminist or a minority rights thing. could be anything. pro drugs people who make shit up annoy me, even though i take drugs. both stormfronts and searchlights who distort the truth for their own agenda.. maybe it is an extremism thing?

hasbro for the longest time made the official princess celestia toy bright pink rather than the pale pink/white of the show princess celestia. they did this because of research which showed that little girls were more likely to buy a toy if it was bright pink than any other colour. pink used to be a boys colour because it was a variant of red, and blue was the girls colour so yes it is a cultural thing (this does not de-legitimise it)
but companies exist to make money and right now girls are more likely to pester power for their product if it is pink princesses

There are a lot of male and female Star Wars, and Harry Potter fans, but they never advertise towwrdas little girls. Lego also wonders why girls dont buy their products.

I like how men's rights activists aren't even concerned with genuine biases in law and society and are just scrawny hipsters that whine about how they were circumcised and how everything bad that happens to them is everyone else's fault
It's like they want to avoid being taken seriously

You know whats also cute? How so many MRA's bitch about child support, and loose pregnancy vag, but still legislate against birth control and abortion. lol Not very smart.
What happens when the Repubs are asked on how to punish rape victims who have abortions?
