12th grade? She produces increased crops and in theory sells more.
Of course if every farmer does this, then perhaps the price will drop for a net sum zero gain. Is this really a class question?

Many of these crops cannot make their own seeds, so that each harvest the farmer has to purchase more seeds instead of harvesting their own.

That's an unwarranted assumption. No information is given about the crop, the type of pest, or the habitat.
The only information provided about the payoff is that she can do the same work with a reduced need for pesticides.

i think the simple answer is that if the new seed is only slightly more expensive, and you can save 2/3 of your money on pesticides, then you could increase the amount of seed you buy by 2/3 the price of pesticides. but you'd also have to consider the cost of spraying the new crops. so it wouldn't exactly be 2/3 the cost of pesticides spent on more seeds. so it'd be 2/3rds less the ratio of the cost of seed to the cost of pesticide.Anonymous D replied with this 14 years ago, 4 minutes later, 2 hours after the original post[^] [v] #355,928

Yea and even more complex because currently that source of seed is Monsanto. If she tries to use any of the seeds to plant new crops they will sue her ass and take her farm. Monsanto is VENGEFUL.

This exercise has gone to illustrate how retarded most MC users are. A simple piece of information is presented, which is then misinterpreted (and not deliberately so as to be humorous like Anon B).

Less pesticides poluting the underground waters, less cash spend on pesticides means more cash for crack and hoes (tho some of it goes on the more expensive seeds).
In the end she'll lead quite the same life. A bit healthier cause of less pollution of the pesticides, but her new crack addiction will push her into powerty tohether with the hoes and midgets she rented for her b-day party...

Currently lots of farmers in USA destroy crops because they cannot find field workers or pickers. Immigration issues.
