I've been watching DayZ videos on youtube for a while now, game looks awesome fun to play and now I finaly have the ARMA2 pack to play it. Anyone here play it?
Fox !FXYGNx1XR. joined in and replied with this 14 years ago, 4 minutes later[^][v]#355,273
Yeah I used to play it a lot but not in a while.
The mod's bugs were just making it unplayable for one of my friends so I kinda ignored it.
It's been since uninstalled and I'm too lazy to reinstall it now even though it's probably a lot better now.

The map is large enough that you don't meet others too often, and because no one wants to die (or even get injured because that's bad enough as is) and lose all their hard-earned stuff, player encounters are some of the tensest moments of any game I've ever played. Its worth the adrenaline rush from those alone.
You also never know who is watching so you never really let your guard down.
Teaming up with strangers is great fun, too. I once had an eight man team going and we were raiding loot spots like masters without so much as a word spoken between us.

Yeah your right. Games suck hard when you don't have an instant respawn and you're not given everything right away. Feeling of accomplishment is so last year

Dear Diary
I killed my first player today. He shot at me first but I was the better aim, I then robbed his corpse.
This game is fun. It's fun to see yourself progress each day as you gain more knowledge of the area and zombie movments.
@previous (Killer Lettuce !!iNo3FkiZx)
Tbh bro and all trolling aside I don't think you'll find it fun. I haven't seen a single brony clan yet

I should give it a try, I have it installed and everything but the first time I played I had no clue what to do, found a village but couldn't enter any of the houses and then zombies killed me. Then I tried again but zombies killed me in the field before I got anywhere. Then I tried again by sneaking whenever I felt like they were near me but then I got killed again, I apparently failed. :(

To survive the zombies, prone is required, and it's mostly about timing your movements to when the zombies are as far away as possible and that may take lots of patience.
That'll get you into houses and to your first weapon, which you aren't allowed to fire unless you literally have no choice.
A single shot of nearly any weapon will pull zombies that will replace the one you killed tenfold and is never really worth it.

I meant like while all those buildings had doors I couldn't enter any of them. It was pretty frustrating.

There are only a few actually openable buildings, which are either entirely open with no doors or have doors that give a context option near the doors to open them.
You probably went up to ones that you couldn't get into.

Buildings, usually. And other players.

But I couldn't enter the buildings and the players would have to get it from somewhere, so I guess I need to keep trying doors until I can get in one, or find an open structure.

The best thing to do is watch some videos. I recomed FRANKIEonPCin1080p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPJ37khFJWI EP1 and go from there. It's really a progress, trial & error type of game. You feel great once you understand how the zombies work and where you get loot. You can hop from server to server so can loot up on low/no population server then hop onto a server with more population with that same loot.

@355,732 (G)
Yeah, exactly.
Loot is in open buildings in cities, but also sparse buildings and barns in the wild.
The most precious loot is at the Northwest Airfield, where campers with high-end gear often kill off all the noobs that dare venture there.

Alright, when I dare try this game again I shall make it a point to not go there unless I find an empty server.

After you wrote this I picked up enough supplies from Cherno and made my way up there on a low population server. I spent the night looting the barracks and Fire-station running like crazy inbetween the two then switching servers. Picked up an M4A1 CCO, a Glock with a torch on the end plus plenty of ammo for them both. I've been shitting myself half expecting to see another player doing the same thing. I'm now about to leave and set myself up in Vibor just south of the air strip.
Fuck, this game is to much fun, it's intence

I had a deer stand rotation going on so if I ever died I'd always be able to get some sort of AK in short order. I love the ones that come with KOBRA sights so I can decently snipe bandits that find me.

Deer stands in the game are wooden shooting towers used by hunters. In DayZ you can find military grade loot in them although the chances are not that high so if you're able to jump from one deer stand to another you'll eventually find some good gear.

So you could just loot a spot, switch servers, loot, switch, loot, etc?
Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 14 years ago, 14 minutes later, 2 days after the original post[^][v]#355,832
@previous (G)
Yes BUT... Servers are collected on a hive. If you change hive groups you'll start a new character. I highly recomend you download "DayZ commander" and filter to only use the official servers, that way you'll keep your toon and reduce the chances of hacking. But yeah, you can keep switching servers for loot. I was doing that at the NW Air field but it has it's risks.

Other players doing the same. If I saw a guy at NW Air field yesterday I would have shot him. Your inventory is very limited so it's only worth doing untill you find a great weapon.

I just connected to a server, ran around, connected to another server and had to start over picking my gender again and all that. I chose to hide unofficial servers in the dayz commander :(
Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 14 years ago, 6 minutes later, 2 days after the original post[^][v]#355,841
You need to make sure your DayZ mod is up to date as well as ARMA2 but the Commander will do that for you if you select it (see vid) You can also make notes and favorite servers so after a while you should have a few you like to use and can easly find. Do you live in the UK or US? I might be able to help you out once we're both settled, I need to find a tend and start collecting l00tz

I shall check that video out, but I think I've got DayZ commander figured out for now. I am following a train track!
I have not installed any of the dayz mods, but I shall do so after I leave this server. I am close to the UK.

I found my first helicopter crash site today then a second not far from the first which had the awesome AR50 sniper rifle, sadly when I logged back in it was missing from my backpack. However, I did find a Ghillie Suit in the church of a near by town. Now I just need some NVGs and I'll be set.
This game is buggy as fuck but I guess it is still alpha.
