If it wasn't sexual at all, it would probably be considered nothing more than a strange hobby. If it were sexual, it would likely fall under paraphilias in the DSM. Unfortunately, a paraphilia can't be diagnosed as a disorder unless it causes distress to the individual or harm to others. If they were skipping work for furry orgies or starving themselves to afford a fursuit or something, then you might be able to argue that their furry lifestyle was adversely affecting them.

This. Attraction to anthropomorphic animals on its own would never get onto the DSM. Furries who take it to the point where they harm themselves or others in some way usually have a genuine mental health problem or just way too much time on their hands. The fetish itself isn't a disorder.
