Image went missingA little known legend about Disneyland's Main Street which has not yet been investigated! The Legend is that the basement storage area beneath the Refreshment Corner on Main Street is no longer used because it is cursed and anyone who goes in there dies!!! It is permanently closed and if anyone asks about it the employees deny it ever existed!!!! But if you ask an old timer who worked there "When it was operational" a long time ago! They will tell you, in a whisper, it is real and it is cursed!....then they'll pretend they never told you!

I live here and have yet to see a single basement in a single family residential structure.

Basements tend to be a midwestern specialty.

> There is a basement underneath Coke Corner. The basement extends from approximately under the counter area to the candy store next door, and then to the back stage area. It is accessed by a spiral staircase located behind the door that leads to the counter area, and via an elevator built into the backstage street. When I was last there it was used for storage of paper goods for Coke Corner and hugh barrels of Coke Syrup (and other beverages) connected to the fountains above. I believe this is the only underground area in Main Street.
> REPORTED: Brad Hoyt 04 SEP 97

> When Coke Corner remodled almost 2 years ago the staircase behind the counter area was removed and any access to the basement from inside coke corner was sealed off. the basement still has an enterance from backstage but it is covered with trash cans and other storage. Coke Corner's storage of paper goods and other supplies is now in the basement of the Plaza Pavillion. the only staircase to this basement is from backstage, so to get supplies from this basement to coke corner the castmembers have to carry the items on stage to coke corners back door which is in candy palace. there is no backstage staircase anymore.

Actually below ground at Disney land; There is are extensive underground tunnels loaded with racks of computers and monitors and a world of hurt re technical inner workings. Security systems that make US Gov jealous. Florida even offers tours on occasion.

Back when I designed some of the most expensive stuff only US Gov could afford. Disney engineers came to me to design even more expensive stuff for them. Given the huge number of people and what they have invested plus true human risk and even deaths, they spare nothing when it comes to the quality of hardware they buy.

tl;dr so don't continue.

They offered me a tour of Disney underground as well as R&D in Burbank area. Memories of rows and rows of R&D for Fake Fire effects. Mass of engineers and techs working on making it better, no expense spared.

Came away very impressed.

Originally electronic circuits design engineer. Then climbed that corporate ladder. Then recruited by US Gov for fun (Not Military) Then well that is tl;dr
All the result of one hell of a fun hobby. Pay off has been fun and $$$$$

How did you do that?

I never once got into my profession to make money. In fact when HR gave me my first offer, I said "That Much?" HR said Never Ever say anything like that again to anyone in HR.
Frankly I would have paid $$ to get that first position. Would have worked for free.

One reason I tell people to find a hobby they enjoy and then try and turn it into a profession.

I'm as unsure as you. But it seems I've spent the last 5 years doing things and have almost nothing to show for it.

If it kept you in food and shelter and you found some love on the side then......I spent a few years hanging in when I should have moved on. Did that in one significant relationship lol.

No basements in Texas because the soil isn't right or something like that.
