“When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous....†he said.

Actually, if you only care about putting out the fire, opening the windows might work. The combination of low oxygen and freezing temperatures at cruising altitude would most likely kill the fire. If your main priority is to keep the passengers alive, though, you'll want to keep those windows closed. Just like fire, people need oxygen and warmth. Of course, if you're already brain dead, oxygen deprivation becomes less of an issue...

Actually if the windows only opened when it was safe to, it would probably be good. Let's say there's smoke in the plane, well when the plane lands, it would be perfectly safe to open the windows, and also pretty beneficial.
