Does it get better? I thought the first episode or two were pretty slow and gave up, but I thought the same about Breaking Bad too.

I have no idea, lol.
I recently enjoyed the HBO mini-series John Adams, but I'm kind of a history/bio nerd so I don't how biased my opinion is of it. It has pretty good ratings. 10 hrs long IIRC.

Given its using major style and a tone set by Scorsese, from the pilot.....Its more about storytelling, so its not an action packed anything. Arty but I like it a lot. Might not be for you.
Who is loaded with wayyyyyy to much Brit accents. Hard for me to get past that.

yes. it gets a lot better. when it starts people like al capone were coming back from WW1, the violence has to build to a crescendo.

Nah, the show creators said that they made it so that older people could watch it with younger kids and not be bored by it (hence all the references and jokes in the show that young kids wouldn't get).

Maybe it annoys people who like to break down and analyse movies, but if you don't tend to do that then it's a decent movie.
I guess I can see how Shaw's musing would annoy people but personally I didn't particularly pay all that much attention to it.

the sleeping old man told the android in his dreams to "try harder" which was his instruction to test the goo to see what it does. When he offered the young man a drink he asked him if he would be willing to risk everything to get answers.
the young man said "yes."
that was all the permission the android needed, the human was willing to sacrifice himself to attain the answers they were searching for.
