it's all so americanized you can't really go wrong. it's all meat and vegetables with some kind of sauce. sometimes noodles.
the soup is weak.
just watch for stuff like tripe and peppers. you might not like the texture and chewiness of tripe (it's flavorless) and the peppers might be too hot for you.
i would avoid any kind of sushi at a chinese place, and as a rule fish should just be avoided entirely. Unless it's a nice place and you know they use fresh fish.

what i would recommend you do is try thai and vietnamese. thai food is awfully hot though, but their soups and fish are amazing. the vietnamese make some pretty bad ass seafood too. Any fish cooked with the head still on is going to be amazing.

actually now that i really think about it Thai food is very, very fish-centric. they do beef too, but the good stuff is fish. and you might kinda have to like fish a lot, i think they broil the beef in fish stock. i dunno. the rice is meant to be eaten. you'd like put the rice in a cup and you'd make rice soup with hot water, and you'd family style the little plates of food like bbq beef strips, fishy fish, chicken pot stickers, really fucking salty fish, and you'd add a little bit of whatever into the cup and stir in the flavorings. unless you really like fish, and salt, avoid anything labeled "salty fish" in a thai restaurant. it's like sardines pickled in salt. it's... strong.

In China they serve Dogs Cats Rats & road kill, in stir fry's and meat on sticks. They say it all tastes like chicken.

it is pretty amazing vietnamese soup. it's a beef stock soup with noodles and meats of your choosing. it's made with asian basil and saw tooth herb, it's very aeromatic and savory. you add bean sprouts, squeeze in some lime, add some peppers and enjoy.
best soup ever.

Yea its a huge bowl real cheep. Beef broth is seasoned with French influence. Cloves and all kinds of spices. Noodles are very long flat rice noodles. Menu lists variations that are mostly the kinds of meats in the soup. I usually order it with rare & well done brisket and tripe. Hard to explain why I like Tendon in it. A texture thing. You do need to ask the server about what to put in it when it comes to the table. Oyster sauce and hot sauce are up to individual tastes. I just watched people from Nam at a table near by and followed what they did. Fresh basil and hot chiles and fresh bean sprouts are added from a plate again to your tastes.

I get crispy spring rolls. I prefer the veggie rolls, but like tham all. If they don't have them I'll get an eggroll. instead. Depending on my mood, I might order a normal meal, but have them used fried tofu in place of the meat. Like sweet and sour tofu, or fice spice tofu. I also like pad tai noodles with fried tofu. If I'm in the mood for meat, I take chcken pork or shrimp in some kin d of sweert and fruity sauce (like oranage, lemon, general tsaos, sweet and sour)
I also like that seaweed salad with the red peppers and sesame oil, and seeds.

i usually start a meal off getting a little of everything, but i tend to get large portions of sauteed mushrooms, spring rolls, and a bowl of rice noodles with a packet of duck sauce for flavouring(the dish usually has very little flavor on its on)

yeah, duck is good. the chinese do know waterfowl.
some of it is more "authentic" than others

Has anyone had pan fried blood or however they cook it? it comes in red 1/2" cubes, kinda like the consistency of cranberry sauce
it sounds absolutely horrifying, but it's actually quite savory. good on rice.
