Topic: False positives with PIR motion sensors

Anonymous A started this discussion 14 years ago #22,257

I have a ton of external lighting on my house which is controlled by 4 different PIR motion sensors. However I have recently been noting a ton of false positives where they're being activated for no reason (the sensors are in view of security cameras so I can tell nothing is there). Tried cleaning them, tried adjusting them but it keep fucking happening.

One day I would like full home automation and infrared beams inside/outside the house, but that is not practical right now. How can I stop false positives with PIR sensors?

Possible bats & large insects. Can you sync frames of video with motion trips to see if its a bat or insect?

Stop frames that is - exactly in time with motion trip.

What do you mean sync it? I can set the DVR to only record when motion is detected, but there is no motion activating the light, there is nothing.

Then its to late to see what set off the sensors. Object has gone by. As dw said sensitivity may be to much. If the wind blows a leaf or insects trip the sensors?

Do you have the sensitivity set to nominal?

No.... The screen is always in my line of sight, and they are recording constantly so I can rewind back to any point. The sensitivity is not adjustable, but a cat does not set them off so I know it's not a small animal.

I have fond memories of the time he set a fan up in his room along with a sheet & left streaming audio running. You could here him talking about the scam and of course the next day his site was flooded with users ragging on the scam.

I'm sure that was a complete accident that Matt was very dissapointed about, not something purposley done...

But the cat is on the ground. What happens if a small object flys by and close to it? I have motion sensors around my place. Few years ago I had a lot of odd tripping. Turned out to be cars on road not far away with excess ignition EMI tripping sensors off. Rewired with shielded cable and made sure the shield was GROUNDED! Solved the problem. My system does have sensitivity adjustments per sensor and all are at nominal.

What's the point in posting a thread here when you're just going to ask me the most fucking obvious and stupid questions imaginable, as if they weren't the first things myself (or anyone with more cognitive thought than a fucking earth worm) would think? Stop it.

@350,353 (B)
I don't know. The cat walking around is in view of the PIR, so I'd assume anything smaller in view would be ignored. An electrician installed all my lighting shit, but I also screwed up some dirt cheap ($20-30) solar powered lights which work amazing. Wish I had just put solar lights up instead, then I wouldn't even care about false positives.

OK - So cat on ground not setting it off is exactly my point. A close fly by of Birds Bats - Debris? Do you have any info on the sensors? Model number? Then you can look up on net to see if others have issues. I was doing just that for a neighbor re a Belkin router and their model number comes up with exactly the same complaints neighbor has.

What I have installed & for insurance reasons I had licensed installer do the install - Dual tech type with IR and Microwave. However the electrician did the install without using shielded cable. Because only one side of my house continued to have the problem it was easy to find the problem. Sensors do trip cameras but I also have active 24/7 cameras as well. With noting tripping the one side of house I knew it had to be EMI doing the tripping. Proved that by removing one spark plug connection (Car in driveway) with it hanging close enough to produce a spark to the plug. Set off sensors and that is when I did the rewire on that one side only.

I read a UFO Abductee's nonfiction book where he had the same problem. He later realized he was getting abducted by aliens each night.

That's probably what it is.

Very likely. Minichan is under constant surveillance from the reptilians these days. We simply know too much.
