Topic: Why do places evacuate every time there's a bomb threat?

beckyderp !CaTLdYmooc started this discussion 14 years ago #22,193

I don't get it. Just ignore it and eventually people will stop making bomb threats.

Or do they think a legitimate bomber is going to actually call them up ahead of time and tell them all about it?

Why do people respond when danger is reported?

Or do they think that legitimate danger is going to actually be known about ahead of time and they'll be told all about it?

"Hi large public place! My name is Mohammed from al-Qaeda. I just wanted to call and let you know that we're planning to blow up your building at about noon today. Could you please evacuate so that there are no victims? I'm really starting to regret planting all those bombs. Thanks."

Does this happen? No, it doesn't. That would be retarded.

Why does it always have to be "Mohammed" from al-Qaeda? Why can't it be "Greg" or something like that?

The IRA and Basque separatists would routinely do this. Individuals like Eric Rudolph also gave phone warnings. Often with the sole intention of having the building evacuated.

The IRA for one would (sometimes) warn authorities that a bomb was placed somewhere, because the aim was to damage infrastructure and not kill people. OP is the exact type of person that would be whining if a bomb exploded and authorities ignored the warning.

The ETA would do the same thing, too.

Can tell you for a fact that there are legitimate bombers who do call up in advance!
