Topic: How come tons of American cars have their brake lights function as indicators?

I've never seen this in any part of the world but the USA... Brake lights that also function as indicators (blinkers). Is this an aftermarket mod or do USA cars just come like this stock?

Makes no sense. If the car is making a turn you need the flashing light and if the brake is pressed the driver behind needs to know the car is breaking as well as turning.

I consider the combined break/blinker light feature to be the automotive equivalent of Agent 47's distinctive wardrobe - sacrificing practicality and possibly even safety for superficial elegance.

Come live in Southern California. No one here actually uses blinkers, so you won't notice this problem.
