How am I supposed to pass you in the passing lane if you're hogging the goddamn passing lane? STAY OFF THE PASSING LANE UNLESS YOU'RE PASSING SOMEONE.

Passing lanes are obsolete now that we have 4lane freeways. Every lane is a passing lane on those, and it is perfectly legal to pass people on the right. The only time a "passing lane" would be observed is on a two lane highway where you're requires to pass on the left.
Otherwise a passing lane is just silly. They havent existed since the 70s. Not in any real sense. Just go around them on eitherside.

then you'd need to be passing on the left on a one-lane road, and if you have two lanes you may pass on either side. of course you'd be limited by speed limit, and what i think you're actually referring to is the tendency for 2 cars to drive next to each other therby making a "wall" in front of you that you cannot pass. Truth be told this happens because people believe the posted speed limit means they are supposed to drive at that speed. It is the maximum allowed, and when everyone hits the same speed you get big walls of congestion faster traffic can't get around.

The thing is that one is supposed to stay right except when passing. That's what the law says. Of course, the law also says that you can't break the speed limit while passing, but no sane officer enforces that unless you're in a downtown area.

Once and yes I could see it was a cop, I passed the cop which required that I go faster then speed limit. (cop was already going 5mph over limit)
Had to pass DUI test twice because cop was not convinced anyone sane or sober would ever pass a cop.
Come to think of it I did this in Australia before doing it in USA.

The thing is that we are required to stay in the right lane except when passing. It seems like no one ever follows that law, yet police in certain towns seem more than happy to pull over anyone going a hair over the limit, while other cops just don't give a damn.

Tired and on a major Endorphin high each time. Once so high on Endorphin's that I pulled myself over and waited for the high to pass. Told a cop about that high and he understood.
