Topic: Why do cops like shooting dogs so much?

beckyderp !CaTLdYmooc started this discussion 14 years ago #21,813

It seems to be one of their favorite things to do.

I don't understand why. A cop came to our house once, I forgot why, and he pulled his gun on our yellow lab Max when he jumped over the kitchen gate and trotted over just to say hi. I jumped between the officer and him, told both of them to calm down, and explained to the officer that he was still a puppy, and he was harmless. Max proceeded to smell his feet and roll over and look at him, all "rub my belly, please!" The officer still had his gun pointed at him the whole time. I asked him why he still had his gun out, when Max himself made it very clear that he just wants to be friends. He got all huffy and started saying some bullshit about he charged at him aggressively. I said, "You don't spend much time around dogs, I see." Meanwhile, Max is still on his back, and is wagging his tail and just trying to be as cute as possible so this guy will pet him. "see how he's laying on his back? That's a submissive stance for a dog. He wants you to rub his belly. See?" I got down and started petting Max, and his tail, which had been wagging the whole time, started wagging faster. He sighed, and the officer got all paranoid, "he just growled!" I gave up at this point. "Sir, with all due respect, put your gun away. You just seem to be looking for an excuse to shoot my dog."
Granted, jumping the gate is bad behavior, but Max is a very good natured dog. He just gets a little excited when people come over.

Nah, Max is still alive, but my mother and I have come to the conclusion that he may be retarded. Pic related, he lets my sister draw on him all the time.

I almost brought him to one of the book openings, but he hates children with a tiny vengence.

Golden Retrievers are the best dogs. Smart, friendly, easy to train, and incredibly loving. The only thing I have noticed as a nearly consistent quirk, is that they all like to steal my hat off of my head, and they like to bring you your shoes.
