Topic: Mitt Romney, and his tax return

Postmortem !!Qe8ScDbX+ started this discussion 14 years ago #21,458

Mitt Romney doesn't even fucking know exactly what's on his tax returns. Do you think he does his own taxes? He hires people to save him as much money as possible. Because that's what anyone with money, and half a brain would fucking do.

If there was something to truly be concerned about on his returns, then he'd be in jail. Do you think the IRS just let's shit fly?

Quit with this bullshit you left-wing psychotic fucks.

It may be legal to structure his assets in a way that shields him from taxes, but it is amoral and not something a wannabe president should do.

It isn't a moral issue at all. He's running a business for profit, not for morality. There's nothing wrong with saving money.

It is moral to pay back into the construction and maintenance of the infrastructure your wealth is derived from. It is amoral to behave exploitatively and to participate in the manipulation of law for the benefit of your social class.

Businesses do not have to be moral, but there is strong evidence that more moral conduct of a business—when it benefits all stakeholders of a business (owners, employees, customers, and community)—correlates with a net increase in quality of life, a longer business lifecycle, and less waste.

Except Mitt is exploiting those loopholes for his benefit at the net loss of the commons. That is amoral behavior.

Because Mitt is part of the ownership class, has clout, and is part of the executive branch establishment, he should have extra burden to align the morality of conduct with the laws his social class have control over. His failure to act morally, in personal and governmental contexts, is an amoral action.

His actions are amoral both directly and indirectly. Case dismissed.

If mitt had half a brain he'd cough up any document he was asked for. Just like Obama's birth certificate, mitt's taxes aren't going to be dismissed because he says so.

Also i think he won't release his taxes because he didn't pay any. Typical out of touch wealthy businessman. I wish i could use financial loop holes to not pay yaxes, but i can't bexause i'm middle class and don't have loopholes written for me.

Loopholes are made for the rich, and mitt knows that. That's why he won't fess up to using them. Hell, why should he pay taxes? That's what the filthy middle class does. He's too good for that.

I’m solidly middle class and paid a total state and federal tax rate of 10 percent in 2010. The rules were made for the rich, but they are not exclusively for the rich.

What these rules do, however, is make it so the time investment to structure your assets and create deductions is worth it to those who have the most to gain.

No, I’m not going to release my 2010 tax returns because they’re legal but embarrassingly disgusting. It was an amoral decision but I did it for the lulz and gave a lot of my tax return to charity.

Pretty much. The rich are pandered to because what they do actually matters. If a member of the 1 percent can make more profit elsewhere, he'll do that, and that actually does suck for the economy. If some middle class nobody calls it quits, no one gives a shit, it doesn't matter. The only way the middle class will ever have a real say is if there's either mass boycott, or violent revolution.

It would take many more of the working class to quit for it to matter at all, than it would for the upper class to quit. However if somehow (not happening) all of the working class just said "fuck you, we're not working until we get more." Then the upper class, the leaders, would have to bend a little. Again though, that isn't going to happen. It would mean the majority of people would have to risk their livelihood for a greater cause, and it would have to be on an international level (outsourcing). The majority of people don't take risks, and that's a big reason why they're poor.

The problem is that your rationalization is an overly-broad excuse that could describe running a business just as easily as it could describe running a dictatorial regime or a crime family. Saying that some people benefit by exploiting others doesn't really tell us anything we don't know, but that seems to be where your thinking here begins and ends. If you are trying to make some sort of pro-Romney argument out of just that, then you aren't doing him any favors.

I'm not sure why you seem to think that the fact that someone is aggressively exploiting the system for their personal gain somehow makes a good argument for giving them more power over that system. That sounds like a pretty dangerous disconnect in your thinking.

I think people should do whatever benefits them the most. Look at Romney's policies, if they help you, vote for him. If they don't help you, don't vote for him. There really isn't a right, or wrong.
