Check this out. This expansion gives the Famicom the AY-3-8910 sound chip in ADDITION to the stock 2a03 onboard sound chip.

Oh, and there is also the Namco 163. 8 channels of wavetable synth.

Those are actually pretty cool. The AY chips are a little balliser and full to my ears, would be a great contrast to the thinner (but not in a bad way) sounding 2A03.

As for the Namco 163 chip, I hadn't heard of it but I'm reading about it.

I really like the idea of being able to use the 2A03 and the AY at the same time. I can't wait for Famitracker to support it.
