Seems pretty hopeless in most Western countries right now. I'm in the UK and I know for people applying for 30+ jobs per week and no interview or response in months. Easiest way in will be if you have a friend or family that can put a word in for you or something. There aren't many manual jobs I will just get qualifications until economy recovers.

There are always minimum wage/fast-food/retail-type jobs for people who can pass drug/record checks. If you're worried you're not qualified, you'll want to try to make an impression in person rather than just flinging around online applications which may never see a real person.
Show up early in the morning, dressed nicely, with a resume and references in a folder. Ask about the application process. They may bring out the manager to talk to you so be prepared to give a 2-3 sentence explanation of why you want the job and why you'd be good at it.
The next month and a half or so is a good time to be searching for this kind of work because of school starting back up. Consider volunteering too.

This will be the best tip you've yet: DON'T. Do not seek employment. Seek property ownership and rental incomes instead. Employment is for the masses. Property ownership is for the elite.

Skills. You acquire property though the sale of skills. Employment is for people with a lack of marketable skills.

In other words you work and save and acquire property. I own and rent out property. It is my least fav means of making money. Buying property at a cheep price in today's economy is easy. Finding and keeping people who can fix it up and maintain it is a BUMMER
I have an inside edge when it comes to coming up with the best of the best renters. Few have the resources I have re renters. All in all owing income property is just not any fun at all. Playing the market when the economy was more better sure was FUN!
My work is mostly Fun. Managing property is not fun at all!!!
