Topic: Can you help but ponder where exactly are we all going as a society?
Anonymous A started this discussion 14 years ago#20,978
In reflection of current events and recent happenings... where are we heading as a whole, really? Is there a future for humanity? Or are we all doomed?

Straight off the cliff.

Beings of higher intelligence are an abberration. We are ghosts in the machinery of the universe, and one day we will be purged.

OP
Don't know about YOU. Me?
Looking forward to a really nice dinner tonight with a very nice wine. Weather is ok & could be nicer if grey would go away. Lots of work with pay now & for sure in future. GF's making great plans for Fri n weekend.
If not for CNN and being a news junkie ......Consider ancestors without CNN and clueless. 100,000 years ago my ancestors only looked forward to dinner and some resting time between work and after dinner and a nice fuck.
On reflection
More things change the more they remain the same 100,000 years ago as well as now.

Which events, in particular?

Probably forward with some regression in certain areas.

By 'forward' he means "doing things I like" and by 'regression' he means "doing things I don't like"
The truth is that there is no such thing as a place "where we are heading". Shit happens, that's it. Does it really matter if it's a mammoth-eating caveman's shit or an advanced cybernetic organism's shit? It's still just shit.

Not necessarily so. Sun is shinning, weather is almost purrrrrrfect. Dinner will be amazing & I cannot think of a downside for today.

Future for humanity? Yes definitely.
Future for America? No.

Why definately? We're the only species in the known universe that can use ratinal thought and logical reasoning yet we still built enough nukes and nerve gas to kill earth multiple times.
I just don't see humanity lasting very long. Intelligent life is far too volatile to do very well in the long run.

I never said it was going to be a bright future.
The way things are now global warming is still the biggest threat to the planet, yet everyone laughs it off as some kind of practical joke.

Global warming is just a buzzword for massive air pollution. Even if "global warming", per se, is not factual, pumping massive quantities of pollution into the air is still a bad idea, if for nothing else, health concerns.
People act like pollution is only bad if it fundamentally alters weather patterns on a global scale. Like if it's not the worst thing imaginable, then it's fully innocuous.

It might be a buzzword for the mass media but it's a serious scientific issue.
> Even if "global warming", per se, is not factual.
It is factual. WTF is wrong with people?
There isn't anything about it that isn't factual. It's SCIENCE!

@previous (Handel !tYHPZ2dvu6) > Even if "global warming", per se, is not factual
what i mean by that is if the science behind global warming ends up showing nothing more unusual than a natural cycling of the climate as opposed to man made global warming. And from what I understand both sides are not in dispute that the climate is changing, but it's the cause that is in debate. 1 side says man made greenhouse gasses, the other says a normal natural shift in average global temperatures.
Of course there is the third side that refuses to accept any science as valid, but why would you care what they think?

Global warming is very real. Unfortunately, it seems as though the heat fetish that every fucking Southern American has will prevent us from curing this problem.

Global warming is a political football in USA. Republicans find environmental issues, just roadblocks to the wealth they desire/need.

Other day in news they showed a study of good foods-drinks vs bad foods before sleeping. Hit Google.
I think what I eat is on the bad list, but it does not effect my sleep patterns.
