While I was visiting my aunt and uncle in Ipswitch, they got a nuisance call from a guy. Basically he threatened to go after their bank account or something like that, and my uncle exchanged barbs with him before hanging up.
Later, I found out that they'd been getting calls like that from this same guy for four years. Apparently he used to leave a number for them to call back but he's since found a way to hide his number.
Anyone else ever experience anything like this or hear about it happening to someone else? I've heard of a few other cases like it, and it seems like such an easy way to mess with people, so I was wondering how common it is.

No, nothing like that, he's an engineer so I doubt it's work related. My aunt suspects that he got their number from some girl they gave their number to years ago, but they're really not sure.

Easy solution to this problem. Phone calls contain threats so it really should be reported to police. They can find the phone number from telco security. Uncle could on next phone call, tell that idiot he will call cops. Shit happens and I suspect you only have a portion of the story.

No, it doesn't seem to be anything like that. Apparently the guy says all kind of shit, so he's not just talking about money. From what I gathered he's basically an internet troll but on a phone. He wants to get a reaction.

Nope, but I've had the same guy calling about missold PPI insurance for a long time. Every time, it's the same guy. He uses a new name each time he calls. I've made a game of trying to see how long I can keep him on the phone, stringing him along: record is 32 minutes.

If he's withholding his number, get them to call their service provider - they'll block the number. I've had BT do this for me on a few occasions.
