Topic: My boyfriend sucks and is kind of a baby.

Anonymous A started this discussion 14 years ago #20,661

Image went missingOr maybe I'm just mean. In any case, I don't like him that much. But we haven't been together for that long.

Is it better to wait a few more weeks and see how things go, or break up with him now before he gets too attached? If he gets attached at all, that is. Like I said, I'm pretty mean. so who knows.

Pic not related.

OP sounds like astromermaid, but I'd be pleased if OP was male. And I'd be extremely happy if OP was Green who has a boyfriend now who doesn't know Green is a man.

He's never gonna be attractive to you because you already have him. Mean girls (and homos) don't want a man for themselves, they want a man to fuck some other bitch over.

Cheat on him with a middle-aged married dude who promises he'll leave his wife "someday." You'll fall instantly in love.

He's really clingy/needy. We've not even been officially dating for one month and he's already talking about "soulmates" and weird stuff like that. He's older and more experienced than me, and keeps talking/bragging about all the sex partners he's had which bothers me to no end. We disagree about almost everything. He's self-centered and has a huge ego. He thinks he knows about stuff when he really 75% of the time has no idea what he's talking about. So maybe baby is the wrong word, but he's childish.
In the interest of fairness, though, he's also handsome and intelligent and infinitely kind to me. He is a good guy overall, but he just rubs me the wrong way sometimes.

I'm mean in that I get annoyed at him easily. If he gets too sappy I kinda just ignore him. If I say something that bothers him I make sure to say it again in the near future. I'm not as kind as I should be.

"Infinitely kind" ≠ "self-centered"
"intelligent" ≠ "75% of the time has no idea what he's talking about"
Pick a side and commit.

He's insecure and clingy. We know that. Takes two to tango.
What are you? Distant comes to mind so far. Afraid of something?

In one breath he is an asshole to you. In the other breath he is infinitely kind to you.

Pardon me because back in school I learned to add and 2+2=4 ......You however add it up so differently. Do you live in a parallel universe? Up = Down & Down = Sideways.

I mean he's self-centered but he treats me very nicely. I didn't say "infinitely kind", I said "infinitely kind to me". There's a difference. He is by no means a "kind" person, but he treats me nicely and with respect. And he's intelligent in his own field, I mean.
Distant, I guess. The only thing I'm afraid of in this situation is committing to spend my life with someone who is wrong for me.

@previous (G)
I never said he's an asshole to me. Maybe I explained it wrong. Let me try again- he has some quirks and qualities that really annoy me A WHOLE LOT. But he's never an "asshole" to me.

Cut your losses. He will end up not being "kind" to you. Lonesome? You just need a break. Make a list of qualities you want-need, and find what you need. Now you said you were a mean person. That could present long term problems. Work on that.

It doesn't sound like he's a model of emotional maturity. He may have had more relationships than you or more sexual partners, but I wouldn't be so quick to think of him as more "experienced" as far as meaningful, adult relationships go. Generally (hopefully) people learn from experience and mature. It sounds like he needs to do more of that.

> In the interest of fairness, though, he's also handsome and intelligent and infinitely kind to me. He is a good guy overall
Well, that's a plus. There are a lot of douchebags out there.

> He thinks he knows about stuff when he really 75% of the time has no idea what he's talking about.
Have you played with the idea that he sometimes does this to try to look knowledgeable or capable in your eyes because he is afraid that he often doesn't and lacks confidence in the way you feel about him?

> I'm mean in that I get annoyed at him easily. If he gets too sappy I kinda just ignore him. If I say something that bothers him I make sure to say it again in the near future. I'm not as kind as I should be.
Maybe you both need a little time to mature? Perhaps it's a little early to jump into any life-altering decisions before you two can reach a more comfortable balance with each other.

Who knows? Maybe trying to force things to be more serious will blow up and end badly. Maybe working through it all together will end up with you two feeling like "soulmates". Whatever you do, enjoy it while it lasts. If you're not enjoying it, there's really no point.

Usually women prefer this. Are you male?

I thought you were male.

If you want a long term relationship, you will want children and your own, not adopted.
