So, I tried to install Gingerbread on my I869 (Captivate). It didn't go well.
1. Attempted to use Kies to install Froyo on my phone, which failed.
2. Flashed a rooted ROM for I9000 (Vibrant) on my phone on the grounds that both phones are marketed as "Galaxy S" in Canada.
3. Panicked when my phone wouldn't boot.
4. Flashed the Rogers stock ROM on again.
5. Flashed the AT&T Froyo ROM on.
6. Realised that my system settings and apps got wiped; tried to reinstall stuff.
7. Found out that it wouldn't hook up to the Rogers network and that my SIM wasn't working.
8. Flashed the Rogers stock ROM on once again.
9. Tried to run my apps, and they were all fucked
10. Cleared all user data.
11. Reconfigured my shit.

I tried doing that iDroid thing since I'm no longer using my 3G anymore.
Didn't encounter problems with the install app, but I forgot the power button didn't work and somehow got it stuck in recovery instead of the all-important DFU mode.
My only choices now are to leave it bricked or put stock 4.1 on it and leave it on eternally.
