Topic: UK "pirates" face £20 appeal fee if accused of copyright infringement
Anonymous A started this discussion 14 years ago#20,319
> Suspected internet pirates will have 20 working days to appeal against allegations of copyright infringement and must pay £20 to do so, according to revised plans to enforce the UK's Digital Economy Act. The details are contained in secondary legislation presented to Parliament and a draft code published by Ofcom.
This is absolutely absurd. What happened until "innocent until proven guilty"? Now it's "guilty unless proved innocent after we extort money from you"? What the fuck is happening to this country.

In USA one pays a fine for a parking-traffic ticket before any appeal.

In USA it happens as high classed crime in politics. Politics as usual.

I've emailed the MPAA (through Tor) countless times insisting they release stuff on thepiratebay with ads in it as downloading it is the most convenient way. Streaming is a pain compared to downloading it all first. Blu Ray discs scratch easily and when they skip, it's a minute instead of a second with DVDs.
