Edit: Okay, maybe he isn't a troll. Here's how I would probably respond:
Overpopulation is enough of a problem as it is, so why reduce half of the population to the status of livestock for the better part of their lives just to encourage that? Let's just pretend we live in an alternate dimension where the ethical and social implications of this are nonexistent. Would it really be a good idea to take half of the population out of the workforce for 60 years while they raise a bunch of kids without father figures, only to release them back into this "man's world" to either become dependent on state handouts or to die off? Keep in mind we're giving the future generations a shittier upbringing, imprisoning half the population, leaving the other half without companionship, depriving the economy of the former half's skills and talents, and suffering all of the consequences from the deprivation of the latter half's and maybe you'll see why so many people think this is a bad idea.
