Is Benedict Cumberbatch really Khan in Star Trek 12?
Because I've ran a quick Google search to find that this is unconfirmed and even disregarded as a myth by actor Simon Pegg.
Is it safe to assume this is just paranoid speculation by Star Trek fans?

It's probably just paranoid speculation by Star Trek fans.
J.J. Abrams himself has come out and said that casting for the next Star Trek film shouldn't be too much of a worry as he plans to cover most of the actors' faces with lens flares for much of the film. In an interview earlier this week Abrams remarked, "I may just use whoever shows up sober that day for whatever part we happen to be filming at the time. Between the lens flares and shaky shots of the characters running down corridors and shouting at each other, you really won't have enough time to notice who is playing which role."

I know a Trekkie who is absolutely paranoid about them "butchering the character" of Khan so I decided to look this up myself.
Like I said, it just all appears to be speculation on the part of Star Trek fans.
I was wondering if any Star Trek viewers (if any) here knew anything different that I didn't find.

Never got into Spaced. But yeah, he was good as the Editor.
How to Lose Friends & Alienate People was also pretty good.

A lot of people are saying Sybok. But you can see he's not wearing ears in the leaked pics. Unless he didn't have his makeup on and it was just a rehearsal I don't see how he could be anything but a human character. Or super human. Or android. Well he's probably not Klingon anyway.

So basically like a Nero kind of villain, not based on a past well established one?

Seems as likely as anything else. Possibly some renegade Starfleet officer. The insignia is just visible on his shirt.

TV series & Google add to a long list of stars. For instance Ashley Judd Ensign Robin Lefler in the two Star Trek: The Next Generation fifth season episodes
