Most burglaries go unsolved, my chances of getting caught are rather slim. I'm nearly positive that if I take the time to make sure no one is home, and am covert enough about breaking/entering, and leaving with valuables, I should be totally fine.
I live in a small town, too. I'm quite sure that there won't be too much DNA testing or anything going on, but I can easily just wear disposable gloves, to avoid that.
I also live around a lot of wealthy people, these fuckers have valuables.
I'm going to start looking for a house tonight, then I'm going to keep visiting that house, walking by it during different hours of the day. I'm going to try, and find a house where everybody is gone at a certain hour.
May end up just breaking into an occupied house at night (waiting until the lights off, and praying that everyone is asleep) and just bringing a gun in case some body confronts me.

I could also just to check to make sure there isn't anyone there, or awake by knocking on the door. I could wear a nice outfit, and pretend to be doing a survey on some bullshit.

just trying to work shit out, would rather not go to prison, you know? I need to find someone with a car though, I don't drive, and even if I did I wouldn't use my own car. On the off chance someone does see us, they'll see his car. I'll say I had nothing to do with it.

Well yes actually, risk vs. reward assessment. There's a chance that I'll get the police called on me, or that someone will come after me with a gun. I could do hard time, or be dead.
But I could also make a lot of fucking money, thousands of dollars could be made very easily in a single night with minimal effort on my part. I'd also get some pretty sweet thrills.

Oh, i'm jelly. Burglary is fun as hell.
But you're doing it wrong, OP. People are home at night. Best to go during the day when everyone is at work or school.
Good call on the work uniform idea, just carry a tool bag and look like a serviceman when you're casing the property. No one will remember you.
Protip: look for luggage and use it to carry out the loots.

Yeah people will be home at night, but I'm worried about neighbors. I guess just be really good at lock picking.

It's pretty easy to get away with a heist. But it is essential that you case the joint and have everything planned out. Most cons who get caught are caught because of poor planning alone.
Also, advice from a former pro: NEVER get someone else involved. Do the job ALONE. You will REGRET it if anyone else goes with you.

Actually burglars don't pick locks. That is for spies and people that want to enter unnoticed. Burglars just go through an unlocked window or find a door with a weak lock.
OP, just don't be an asshole and steal people's computers. Steal their monitor sure but stealing their computer is like stealing all their important paperwork -- it ruins lives.
Also most people's homes are full of stuff with no resale value, but just expensive to replace. You might steal something that cost then $500 and get $100 for selling it used.
I've never burglared, this is just obvious stuff people overlooked.

Protip dress like the hamburglar, people who see will sometimes think it's a joke which gives you more chances. Not so much when you are dressed like you are going to a black bloc.
