You should started with the original series that is black and white. Unearthly child is a good four parter, so is the Aztec episode.
The original series was more creative. They'd have alien cultures using psychometry instead of fingerprints, using psychic energy instead of electricity, and so forth.

Not at all. You really notice this in later episodes and seasons. People can change things in the past and it effects future events. I don't want to spoil anything, but at one point he even defeats a certain enemy by recording a message on the footage of the original moon landing.

I think they can die of old age in a body and eventually they do run out of regenerations. You only get 12 lives I think.

They'll figure out a work around if the franchise is still profitable (and I don't see that changing soon). The only real question is whether the work around will be a cool, dramatic thing or just some throw away bit of dialogue.

yeah, retcons happen and it is all about popularity. However the 507 comment as well as the Sarah Jane Chronicles bit about having "no limit" shouldn't be taken as cannon. Especially since the Doctor is a great liar and jokester. And when they brought back the Master, it was stated he received a special dispensation from the Time Lord bigwigs to get another regeneration. This suggests the limit is not absolute, but it does take major mojo to work around it.
