Topic: Why are foreign universities so much cheaper (for outsiders) than US ones?

I've been looking at European universities (pipe dream that's never died) and I could go to a school in paris for much cheaper than an equivalent American university. And they teach most of it in English, and the later stuff is in the native language which you are taught. It seems like a wonderful way of learning. Same thing for schools in other countries, but even cheaper.
Why don't more people here go overseas, and why is it considered a bad idea? And really, why is it so much less?

In fact many from USA do go to schools abroad. Rhodes Scholarship for instance. Bill Clinton it is said...Picked up skills later used with Monica.

After thinking about your question for a bit - USA in UK for instance should not be a problem when it comes to "papers"
One could for instance learn French, yet how would one become fluent enough to turn in essays - term papers and all in between?
Best find online forums, to discuss this with USA Students living out of the country and going to school.

I'm not saying that the state universities are a better value all around, I'm just saying that not all colleges have outrageous tuition rates.

I know at McGill, it's in Montreal but everything is taught in English and work may be turned in in French or English.
And a lot of the schools I've looked at either teach in English completely or offer lots of language classes to get up to speed for later classes in the country's language (starting in English).

It wouldn't, and you're right. You'd have to apply for residence (good luck) and MAYBE you'll get a decent tuition here. But why bother when this place is kind of boring?

Frankly it never occurred to me to go outside the USA for university. I lucked out when a company I worked for payed my way. Famous school near by so it was just pure luck. stickybuns, seems to me one hell of a good idea to pursue a different road traveled. Just some ordinary run of the mill institution vs a more exciting way to go. Montreal is one hell of a city.

The only thing about Montreal, is I'll feel like a scab breaking through the protests.
Considering other schools, though; I want to get a chance to see the world while I'm young and not 100% tied down. I want to be a kind of 'world citizen' and I think going outside the USA would help with that.
I know I'll be studying abroad at some point in my schooling (major requires it), but I think I'd much prefer staying abroad for my studies.

I have seen the world & it was paid 90+% as an employee. I have never been in Kansas or about 6 other USA States. > scab breaking through the protests.
You cannot let a local event fuck with your life. There are always political this & that's no matter where you travel to.
I am a news junkie and CNN kept me tied to USA no matter where I worked-lived. I found myself paying attention to local news when it was in a language I could understand. Just amazing good experiences no matter where I traveled. Only burned just once and long term it was just no big deal. Loss of some money but also a good lesson in how to be more careful next time.

Electronics Engineer. China to Chile & Australia to Siberia. Lived extensively in Australia and Russia. Oh and that one rip off was in Morocco on my money on a wonderful vacation with a GF. Now back to work so see ya later.
