Topic: Why do people think android phones are so much better?
Lee O'Nidas !nBpim1wazU started this discussion 14 years ago#19,810
Android phones come with some Malware called "City ID" that every 10 days turns off the city info in your call log and extorts $1.99 a month to turn it on. So I have to go and force the app to stop and delete its data.
There's no way to remove "City ID" without rooting the phone and the service it extorts money for is a basic thing you expect on a smart phone, not a pay service. And while you can download a 3rd party app that claims to be an alternative, not one of them will display the city info in the call log, only when the call is coming in.

How to Delete Cityid.apk in an Android
Cityid.apk Android application appears as "City ID" in your installed programs list. You can erase this file from your mobile phone permanently by using the uninstall feature built into the Android operating system.
1.0: Tap the "Programs" menu on your Android phone.
2.0:Scroll through the application list, and then tap and hold the "City ID" icon.
3.0:Tap "Uninstall" and then tap "Next" to delete the program file.

IF! CityID.apk still remains in your /system/app folder it is because you bought your phone from a lowcow seller!
Yes several carriers want you to use this .apk Have you contacted your carrier via customer service?
This is a very popular application as you must know and yes its bloated and as it updates it really gets boggy. Phones and most use the Snapdragon chip from one of my most Fav companies (cash in my pocket) does not get bogged down unless its of the first series.
As Fox said get a full software update aka Reload from carrier or where you bought it from.
To be honest with you - far more complain about .apk failure to download. Keeps Verizon cust service busy.

Well I didn't really mean a reload of the carrier software.
I mean a fresh, light, custom rom.

@324,323 (Fox !FXYGNx1XR.)
Carrier can do a full refresh and best to ask for a supervisor, only so that one does not lose what one does not want to lose.
Back when that application was added by the seller (they got a back end payment) there were butthurts of gripes about tracking.
Still are lolol. Something much more powerful is under current development. Serious Powerful and many will whine. Then again it also adds so much overall. Hey there are a few who still want Atari computers.

Not rooting an Android amounts to fail. Same goes for not jailbreaking and iPhone.
It's your property, demand possession of it.
Anonymous B replied with this 14 years ago, 4 minutes later, 1 hour after the original post[^][v]#324,328
However jailbreaking iPhone for added Flash? Hey I support that kind of messing with.
Anon E, I currently do play with PC. Work is multiple UNIX Workstations. I own my PC. I own my Software, yet its only good, if I let MicroShit update my O/S. It ends up a shared possession when you think about it.

Considering it's closed source, full of NSA back doors, and MS reserves the right to cancel support for it at any time; It ends up as possession of you.

I understand your pain.
Is this Apple vs Google-Android? If you for one minute think there are no back doors for Iphone? You also believe in fairy tales.
A Fast look up on web for the front door for NSA, will come up AT&T up in North Calif.
I understand why Jobs was butthurt re Flash. However Flash is a massive Elephant on WWW. You may ignore Elephants if you wish. If you do you end up blind as all Iphone users know full well.
Oh by the way - $$$$ in my pocket if its Android or Iphone.

Because it's better than iOS and any phone is better than an iPhone.

Just lost a lot of respect for you bud. Really ANY PHONE? What about a payphone? What about a phone that when you call it immediately hangs up, and calls the police? What about a phone that whenever you talk it randomly replaces certain words you say with audio clips from KKK clans member speeches? What about a phone that's also a rapist?
All of those phones are better than the iPhone?

what about an android that I rubbed my dick on, and then returned to the store? That's still on the market bud.

I would still rather use your dick phone than an iPhone. Using an iPhone is like rubbing Steve Jobs' dead dick all over your face anyway.

Do you know what concept I am referring to when I type that combination of letters? If yes then as far as I'm concerned, it's a word.

That's how words are invented. If you don't like it, change the rules of language.

Did you know that William Shakespeare was not the first and only person to coin a term in the English language?
And no I'm not implying that at all. All I'm implying is that new words are added to the English language informally all the time. That shouldn't be surprising.

As expertise as eye is on Shakespeare and how he fucked with the English language a reminder - Texting which does not work in my current sperlchek - Texting has added a hole universe to how we communicate on PLANET Earth. It will allow Aliens a more better way to understand our "text speek" Even Killer Lettuce will agree or not with this.

I'm having a little trouble translating your post from Syntax, but yes of course texting has evolved language. Just like we noble BBStards are evolving it by adding autist to it.
