In an unrelated note, we have to cut funding for PBS, NPR, teachers & education, unemployment insurance, etc.
But not Nascar. $100mil over the next decade isn't even that much. Also we can't pull out of those wars either, we need to liberate those arabs (they can't do it themselves).

I remember recently hearing that they were talking about cutting the funding to the Army sponsored Nascar team. It's disgtusting that they were even allowed to defend that when we are trying to cut things from the budget.

That's like saying I could lose weight by cutting off a pinky. Sure, it works, but it's not really worth it. We have a reasonable number of soldiers employed by the armed forces. Rather than cut the number of soldiers, it makes more sense to stop spending money on stupid shit like fighter-to-fighter jets.

Also, remember that the military offers jobs (and for most people in the military, it is their only option). If we cut down the number of troops, all the would-be soldiers will simply be forced to collect welfare or resort to crime, so they are still costing society money.

Here's an idea, stop recruiting people for a war we don't need. The draft will never happen again, times have changes, and people wouldn't let it happen.

If we need the government to employ people that bad might as well have them doing something productive with their time. Most of the war cost goes to weapons, training, bases, etc. Having a force twice as big volunteering their time would cost less.
