No they are masters of BullShit. In a nice way of course. Job is to make a person - company - product - looked at in the best light.
However in the case of a Movie star - The PR person may be employed by the studio. Job might be to get as much attention for the star as possible - EVEN if its negative attention. Anything to keep the name up in headlines. Even if its all total lies.
Yes I know a few people who do this for a living.
Education-experience in advertising, is one avenue towards that kind of position.

I know nothing about that matter.
However when I skipped down to "Advertising education" That in my opinion really sucks re information.

I can only judge you from your posting style - You appear reserved from what I see. Back in this thread I said I knew/know three people who do this for a living. On reflection I know a slew of people who do this for a living - Ex GF did this for a major Real Estate developer - Monster projects - Malls & 30 Story buildings etc. She was more on the reserved side compared to friends who are in this biz.
Then there are people that fall into the PR thing as a result of pitching Bands - Getting the Gigs for is a PR thing when you think about it. So it could almost be a Bouncer type with a good pitch- Ability to Sell.
So that long list you see of what it takes? Could be a shorter list depending on what you want to do.

Event Manager is a total different kind of gig. PR people hand that off to others. Let you look that up while I hit my Ocean Blue n Surf for couple hours. Sure the PR people would be the ones promoting but the schedule and contract for events - booth stuff is a very different skill sets. I know a few Marketing Managers in small firms who do that on their own. I also know a few who blew a set up by not getting contracts right at the get go. Different skill sets.

You could study Strategic Communication. That's one of the interest areas in the journalism school at Missouri, where I go. It's very hard to get into, but that's the field you'd probably want to study.
