Oh yeah, iPods. They still make those?
> That being said, the iPad seems a little too unwieldy to make a regular phonecall on anyway.
Not at all. Just ask Samsung.

They didn't catch on 15 years ago because they were thick, heavy, and even less powerful than your average 1995 computers. They're taking off now because current technology makes them more practical. If you think about it, they never really went away. They were PDAs and smartphones, and now they're making them bigger and calling them tablets, and they're making crosses between tablets and phones like the Galaxy Note.
The iPad is a popular one, but I'd wager that even if Apple never released the iPad, we'd still have Samsung Galaxies and all the other tablets. They were the next logical step in the market. Everyone saw it coming, except the mactards who think that the iPad is revolutionary.

Agree with you except.
iPad-Phone is revolutionary re the GUI. Built in motion sensors and ease of use & quick learning is really remarkable.
No mouse or keyboard. However crappy for full time work-business.

It's not like it's the first device you could use with no mouse or keyboard. All tablets/PDAs/smartphones have worked with no mouse/keyboard. And it can't be that great, because I see a lot of people buying keyboard docks for their iPads.

True nor would anyone write a term paper or multipage document without a keyboard.
Apple does have about the best industrial design going for it. Profit margins are world class. They could sell them for 1/2 the price and still make a decent profit.
