I thought about it, but didn't think it would happen because of the barrier. Geographically, and because communication is hard to get through.

The internal support is the whole point. Protests are starting. That is the internal support. The hope is that they will spread, and from what we've seen in the Middle East/North Africa, that is a good possibility.
As for the external support, the protests so far haven't needed it. However South Korea claims all of the North Korea's territory anyway, and is backed up by the US. Tensions have been escalating in the recent months anyway, with larger scale protests they will have more reason then ever to get involved. > Unless the military defects en masse, ain't nothing gonna happen.
Most of the nation is military, and considering even they are mistreated, I would be more surprised if they didn't defect.

I don't expect SK to offer any support except to maybe come in before the dust settles to prevent the people of NK from setting up their own government.
Maybe one day, but I don't expect anything soon. Maybe I'm wrong, it just seems kind of impossible for a poor people to overthrow a military regime without weapons. Everything I've read about NK just makes me skeptical that the military would defect en masse. It seems the dear son is also very much liked by the military.
People are getting fed up, but people will put up with a lot. It really takes a good propaganda campaign for a revolution.

The Tunisian military and police defected. The Egyptian military defected. The Libyan military defected a lot. People do not join the military to shoot at their own people.
