In the Star Wars universe the smurfs would probably be all declared Force Sensitive and Unobtanium would be some component vital to the creation of Clone Warrior armour.
As this kind of story usually goes, the Smurfs would eventually be wiped out, the Republic would shut everything down and the planet would become an off-limits destination haunted by the ghosts of its former inhabitants.
