So far as I can tell, seems the only reason to go for win 8 is to get tablet support. But who would buy a win 8 tablet over an Android or iPad? The whole thing just seems odd.

i watched one 15 minute preview of a guy using it on his desktop Vs. a guy using it on a tablet with touch.
The dude on his PC had a difficult time with it. Seemed like he was fighting it to do what he wanted and to get where he was going, including getting IE online and playing his media.
then, finally, he clicked the desktop app and was like, ok, anyway, back to using your computer...
Then i watched a different dude use it on a touch tablet. Everything seemed nice and intuitive, the gestures worked well, navigating around was as easy as the iPad or something equivalent.

When Apple introduced features that emulated tablet functions into their desktop operating system, they got a truckload of shit for it, because it was slow and cumbersome to use. This will be no different.

Implying Windows 8 won't get the option to just boot into your desktop instead of the Metro thing. It won't be much different from Win 7 for x86 anyways.

People who do that are dumb. Just mod your bios with a proper SLIC table and activate it using a master key for the brand you used for your SLIC. You can also do this via software, but Windows can sometimes detect those. I suggest Windows Loader for the faint of heart, else just mod your fucking bios or buy the OS you cheap retards.

I won't buy a Win 8 tablet over an Android for the same reason I don't use a Windows phone. A mature label doesn't make a mature platform.
Of course, millions morons will buy Windows tablets thinking the Windows name means they can run all their favorite desktop software without a problem, just as millions of idiots did with Windows netbooks. And they'll be butthurt, same as before. Only this time they won't be able to blame it on the hardware.

It makes sense for people who want tablets with a full windows desktop environment. For some people, that's the one thing keeping them away from a tablet. Windows 8 is essentially going to merge the netbook and tablet markets together, or effectively kill off the netbook market completely, depending on how you want to look at it.
For desktop users though, I see no reason to upgrade to Windows 8. Why upgrade your desktop to an OS geared towards tablets when Windows 7 works just fine?
