Because it's a good show. Has good characters, character development, continuity and creators that take stuff from fans and put it into the show.

It didn't die. The entire team simply moved onto a different project, Legends of Equestria. It's essentially Equestria Online without the name Equestria Online, and it uses all the files developed for Equestria Online which were not copyrighted to Raindrop (the founder).
