So highschool prom is approaching, you guys remember that I'm sure, though I'm also sure that the majority of you didn't attend. You were all rebels, and loners in school. Anyway I'm going essentially for my girlfriend, and she's turned into "promzilla" to use what I think is the proper vernacular, dictating exactly what it is I should wear, how I should behave, etc. Which is all fine and good, I don't really give a shit.
But now she wants to rent this hotel room, at first the hotel room is "$350" for a one night stay, which is okay. She says she's willing to split the cost, and to have sex in a hotel room and have somewhere to crash for a bit is worth that money to me.
However all 1 night stays get booked before we try to purchase a room, so now the price would be "$650" due to the minimum 2 nights we'd have to stay, and of course being high school aged kids (her not even an adult yet), we're not going to be out for 2 days.
At first she's like "Hey, I don't think we can to do the hotel thing, it's a minimum 2 night stay. And that's $650, for us to pay that much would be silly", I in a feigned tone of disappoint, agree with her. I then however suggest we stay at a hotel that's nearby, a different one. I'm sure there's a place nearby that's decent, that has a one night stay available. At this point, she thinks this is a fabulous idea.
The next day, she says to me "John, I've been thinking, why don't we just pay for the 2 nights? I mean we want to have fun right? It's prom" Now I don't totally back down, but I'm hesitant
"That's a lot of money, for us to stay in a hotel room for a few hours. I mean yeah it'll be cool, we'll get to have sex after the prom in our own room, but I'm not sure whether that's worth $650"
"But don't you want us to have fun John? I don't think a night with me should have a price tag, besides it's the only senior prom night you'll get, don't you want it to be memorable?"
"Look, I'm not going to have you guilt me into spending hundreds of dollars to fuck you in a hotel room after a school dance, sorry. I'll do my best to figure this out, but I make no promises"
Now to give you guys a little bit of insight, money is not an object to her. She's never had a job, she just has money her parents give her, and if she runs out, they just give her more money, or directly buy her whatever she wants. She's never had to earn money, she's never felt what it's like to not have money. Which is fine, she's just very sheltered, it isn't her fault. But it sort of explains this attitude of "Yeah, just pay hundreds of dollars for prom, it's just money, we can always get more :)"
Anyway, she writes me this text during class, and it's this long spiel about how I'm the one guilt tripping her, and how she's insulted, etc. it ends with "I hereby solemnly swear to never offer to split a hotel room with you", she gets out of her class, and we meet. I now rather irritated with her say "let's not be hyperbolic, or melodramatic. We can do the hotel room thing, I just have to transfer some money into my checking account, make some other purchases, etc. I mean unless what you said was true"
"It was true", she replies
"Then, you don't want to have a hotel room?"
"I do"
"by yourself?"
"No, with you"
"So you lied in the text (I then show her the text), you're a liar?"
she grimaces.
I then proceed to ask her about the alternative option of a differing hotel room, and she tells me she doesn't feel comfortable in the down town area. And is unwilling to do that. I guess she thinks she's going to be simultaneously mugged, killed, and raped as soon as she walks outside. At least that's her tone.
I just go back to a willingness to get a ridiculously expensive hotel room with her, and pretend like it isn't a retarded fucking idea, and pretend like I don't secretly hate myself for wasting all this money.
She then says to me "Most guys really want to have sex after prom, and would be willing to pay the money for a nice hotel room. Not make their girlfriend split it with them"
"Well, you offered to split it originally. And I'm certainly not paying the full $650, so I guess I'm not most guys"
"Yeah, you're the cheapest guy I've ever met in my life"
Now, ladies and gentlemen, I have spent hundreds, neigh thousands of dollars of my hard earned money on this girl through out our relationship, I have payed for every single meal/date/whatever we've ever had/been on save one, and that one was my birthday.
So for her to call me cheap offends me a little bit, and so I raise my voice just a tad. She thinks it's yelling, I've never once yelled at her, I think if she ever saw me truly angry she'd be traumatized a bit.
So in my raised voice I exclaim "I'll pay for the whole fucking hotel room, I don't care.", so I just angrily offered to shell out $650 of my own money, for a room.
She then proceeds to run away from me saying "DON'T TALK TO ME YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE, HOW DARE YOU YELL AT ME IN FRONT OF EVERYONE"
So that's my story, oh and now it turns out you have to be 21+ anyway to rent a hotel room, so the whole argument was super fucking retarded all along.

Ahhh, Public High School. Despite graduating from there a little more than 5 years ago, I still remember my senior year like it was just yesterday. Probably because that was one of the most embarrassingly awkward years of my life due to my fobby mustache growing out of control. Back then, it was all about following ridiculous but popular trends, trading Pokemon cards (because no one ever really knew how to play with them), spending weekends studying for the SATs and the ACTs, Greg's pants falling down in the middle of the hallway, David getting dumped by Candice in the middle of the cafeteria, and of course, who could forget Katherine getting OWNED by a bumpy bus ride:

But amongst all of the wonderful things that most High School Seniors look forward to, there's one event that every faithful Muslim brother and sister utterly dreads. Yes, my friends. I'm talking about the annual demonic festival of hormonally-repressed acne-faced youth who nefariously gather to revel in a night of fiendish debauchery in order to expend their youthful vigor in a druidic cabal of self-aggrandizement that irreversibly corrupts the faith of our community and decays the very moral fiber of our society.
I'm talking about PROM NIGHT.
Hold on, I know what you're thinking- based upon the sheer number of pretentious SAT words in that previous paragraph, you probably think that I was a huge nerd back in high school and that I'm only hating on Prom out of angry bitterness over never being asked out to it. You're right about the nerd part- but surprisingly, I actually was asked out to Prom by a girl in my AP Biology class, and boy oh boy was it an AWKWARD pretense for starting a da'wah conversation.
But anyways, my awkwardness aside, why is prom bad, you ask? Well, I hope you haven't been to one to know first-hand why it's not exactly an ideal spot for a very young and highly impressionable Muslim boy or girl, but just trust me when I say that for all of the temptations and nonsense that you have to resist in those High School hallways every day, Prom Night pretty much cranks the haram-o-meter up to level 10, and the after-prom parties crank up the haraminess rating to obscenely fitna-tastic levels. It 'aint a pretty sight my friends, and for some of the girls it doesn't get much prettier the morning after, so its best to avoid that cesspool of hormones altogether and do something more spiritually productive with your fellow Muslim friends like growing beard hairs (not recommended for girls) or putting cute henna designs on your hands (not recommended for guys).
As this fiesta of foulness rapidly approaches at this time of the year and looms eerily over the susceptible heads of our young Muslim high school seniors, it's best to equip yourself with the very best of da'wah-proven techniques and certified ẓabiḥah ḥalÄl abilities to ward off the temptations of Prom, and to come up with the perfect escape responses to safely dodge Prom questions and reject prom advances.

Here's the thing everybody, I really did want to have a hotel room with her, and I was willing to spend the money to get said hotel. I was only flustered at her attitude, and just the absurdity of the situation in general. She's not super shallow, or greedy, or anything like that. I think I painted a poor picture of my girlfriend, and I want to ammend that. she really is a terrific girl. I tell this story to you guys, for the sake of entertainment.
Let it be known that I do really love her a whole lot, and am willing to do a lot to make her happy.

I honestly really did want to have a hotel room night, and while I know spending that kind of money would not at all be pragmatic, I was totally willing to do it. So I'm disappointed.

Then ask a good friend who has solved this problem. When someone is already registered they can add on a room. You pay them the cash. I still think $650 is too much considering you cannot even use the room two nights.
