You were expecting Falco, weren't you?I took my car in for an oil change today and they told me that it needed about $1500 in repairs, not to mention a plethora of other problems with it, so instead I traded it in for a 2009 Corolla.

Buying a car is never a profitable endeavor, but yes, they did give me a really good deal on the trade in. I didn't have to put any money down, and I'm now paying $286/month.

It had a KBB trade in value of about $3000. The $1500 in needed repairs probably cost them less than $1000, so subtract $1000 from that and you get $2000. I was still lucky to even get that considering how many dealerships work.

You know what repels cops more than the color red attracts them? Driving a car the size of a Corolla or smaller. Driving at a reasonable speed works pretty well too.
Though it's funny you mention that, as I hadn't even been off the lot for an hour and I think a cop almost pulled me over for doing 65 on I-95.
Also, I didn't really want red. I just wanted one of the cheapest used cars on their lot and this was what they had. I wanted manual instead of automatic too, but oh well. Better this than a Yaris or something 5+ years old.

Manual, why? Computers on automatic transmissions should end up saving even better gas mileage. Plus manual transmission is one more thing to watch while driving.

If you know how to shift gears, you don't have to watch anything. It's not distracting, it's second nature. I know automatics can get the same or better MPG than a manual, but manuals are just more fun to drive and give you more precise control. I think the MPG you get with a manual depends a lot on the experience of the driver. I really miss driving stick.

This. Lots of people get worse MPG in my opinion because everyone high revs. Mainly younger drivers who drive their cars like race cars. Cavaliers and Escorts aren't race mobiles. Anyway, good buy. I saw a Camry today with racing stripes and other stupid shit. Not even the V6 model. Oh, and I think they get better MPG mainly because manual transmissions usually have the extra 5th gear that automatics don't.

I would always stay in the highest gear possible to maintain speed/acceleration to keep my RPMs as low as possible. You're right. Young drivers do not grasp this, and some of them aren't even smart enough to put it in the highest gear while cruising. Don't forget the 6-speed transmissions as well.

Mythbusters did an episode about that and found cranking your AC full blast will decrease gas mileage by 1//2 a MPG at most, and your AC compressor is way more power hungry than any sound system. I doubt it makes much of a difference.

Oh, and since this is a car thread, I'll say it in here. I got to drive my girl's grandparent's Jaguar today. Pretty fun. Some old homeless guy on a bicycle flipped me off too when I was driving. Guess he was jealous. It was an older Jaguar, but still a fun car. I love driving different cars. Quite an experience.

I dislike how parts on a BMW break so easily. I mean, the parts are usually cheap when you do it all yourself, but for such a nice car I would expect the parts to last a bit longer.

BMW's accelerate nicely. That is all. It is not a "nice car." The engine is a winner, but the rest of the car is absolute shit.
It astonishes me how aggressive acceleration makes people feel like they're in a nice car when they're actually in a money pit and deathtrap.
