Something makes me think that they won't cancel it but the problem is how faithful they will be to the comics. I mean, they could get Ryan Reynolds to play the part, but the problem is that Deadpool almost never takes off his mask... So they could just get any kind of stunt double and a voice actor for the part. If he does take off his mask, they'll want Ryan Reynolds for his prettyboy looks but for how long or whatever... seems kind of disingenuous to the fans. The 4th wall breakage is a guaranteed but how do they compromise all of the things they want to stay true to but also deliver a blockbuster that will draw an audience who knows absolutely nothing about his character? Seems kind of hard to compromise.

Well, if Ryan Reynolds is still attached maybe they could script him for a single unmasking scene and then just leave him to do voice-over work for the rest of the film. I think that was mostly the case for Hugo Weaving when he portrayed the Red Skull. I can't remember right now.

actually i love the idea of a permanently masked leading character. bring in a blockbuster supporting cast and director and they could have a monkey as the lead. Just give it to some buff stunt guy and run him through the ringer for 90 minutes. Make it rated R, give it a highly stylized look, and it'll do well.

It wouldn't be difficult. Jeff Bridges was in True Grit and Tron: Legacy and those movies were released maybe a few months apart from each other.
Also if they went with the route that he did voice-over it wouldn't be difficult at all to do in a studio meanwhile working on an actual set.
