From personal experience the first car needs to be the very best value for the money. Cost of repair can suck you dry so no matter what find out the repair history of that car. Its worth every penny to have a mechanic go over the thing before you buy it.
However I sure did learn to do some minor repairs myself. That's always a good feeling.

I agree. For someone on a tight budget I recommend a Honda or Toyota, year 2004 or later. It's tempting to go older to save money, but you always end up spending more on repair in the long run. It's also tempting to get a newer Chevy for less money, but again, you will spend more on repair in the long run. Honda and Toyota are the only way to go for reliability.

Why not just get the tronic transmission? Whats the point in having a car with an outdated transmission? If you are stuck between the two get the mustang, the parts are cheaper.

It depends. If you purchase a new car with cash or you keep the car long after you finish paying the loan, yes its cheaper than leasing. If you trade in your car before finishing the loan its cheaper to lease.

My mom leased a Honda Accord and got the windows tinted. She might have had the dealer do that though. If I actually bought one instead of leasing it, I wouldn't want to do anything major until it was paid off anyway.

Who in their right mind would pay a lump sum up front to rent something? There are many "$0 due at signing" lease options, but then they up the cost of the lease per month, that you'll pay less per month to buy the car if you put, say, $2000 down + $2000 trade in.
It's no wonder dealerships put so much pressure on people to lease. They make way more money on suckers who lease. You guys were right.

I remember that wonderful day when the CPA at the business I worked for "insisted" that I lease a new car ASAP!
God Bless USA Tax codes. What I leased back then is no longer allowed re a Cap on the max amount so people like me do not go wild and crazy as I did for a super Porsche.
