That's because he gave up on updating his site for so long that people stopped giving a shit. Now he's started updating again, but it's too late, he lost too many fans while neglecting his site and became irrelevant. It's a shame, because his old stuff is hilarious, and his new stuff is pretty good too, but it seems like he's lost his touch.

Haven't read it cover to cover, but I know what you're talking about. He didn't spend that much time promoting the book, and even if he did, he still could have taken the site to keep updating his site.
His excuse was that he strives for quality over quantity and that he's not going to update his site with any old shit. Then he complains about people like "Fred" being the most subscribed person on Youtube, but the fact of the matter is, the reason shit like that on Youtube gets all the attention that it does, is because it's marketable and they update on a regular basis to keep people coming back for more. It's a shame that there are a lot of good artists out there who don't know how to market their talents, but that's the way it is, and as a result a lot of terrible shit (like Nicki Minaj) becomes popular.
Maddox had the best of both worlds. He's funny, he has talent, he wasn't a complete sellout, and he managed to build up a huge fan base by updating regularly and not being afraid to offend people. He had a great niche. When he stopped updating his site, he became just another great artist who doesn't know how to market his talent. He should have kept updating his site, even if it meant a sacrifice in quality because a) it still would have been better than 90% of the shit out there and b) he wouldn't have lost the niche he had. I really hope he does regain his popularity, because the guy's hilarious, but he fucked himself over.
A perfect example of how he doesn't know how to market his talent is his Youtube channel. Maddox has a text voice that comes off as an angry rant that people find hilarious. The way he talks in his Youtube videos is way too calm and mellow. It's not the same as his text voice. So his videos weren't as funny as his articles. People brought this up with him, and he addressed it by saying that he doesn't care, he's not going to act over the top in his videos to get attention like all the other popular Youtube channels. Sorry, but those talentless hacks are popular for a reason, and rather than take the advice of his fans to get the best of both worlds, he's rather take the starving artist route and only do things his way. Whatever.

I have not seen his Youtube channel but you are probably right in this regard. He really reached his climax when people started parodying his website (such as that unfunny shit as ninjapirate) and trying to ride his e-fame. Obviously a star burns brightest before it burns out. It would be nice to see a re-vamp but it would take a great effort to try and reclaim that fame since Youtube was the most used service. His web 1.0 site is now but hard to swallow since the viral word of mouth doesn't work for him and trying to go to sites like Youtube and twitter are just not becoming of how he operates.
