Topic: Natascha Kampusch case reopened

Image went missingErnst Holzapfel really should have killed himself after Natascha escaped. Hopefully, he'll finish things before this goes to trial.

Kampusch case to be reopened
Austria is set to reopen the investigation into the kidnapping of child kidnap victim Natascha Kampusch after her father launched a civil case against the man he says was involved in the abduction.

Natasha's father Ludwig Koch filed civil charges at the start of this month (8 March) for damages against the best friend of his daughter's kidnapper.

He took the unprecedented step of filing a civil case over the kidnapping because there was now a "mountain" of evidence against Ernst Holzapfel – the best friend of Wolfgang Priklopil - who snatched Natascha Kampusch off the streets when she was 10 and kept her in a cellar for eight years before she escaped in 2006.

The civil case six years after Natascha escaped was filed at the Vienna Civil Court (Landesgericht für Zivilrechtssachen Wien) demanding damages from Holzapfel, the closest and probably only friend of Wolfgang Prikopil.

Mr Koch is represented by the Vienna-based legal team of Dr Alfred Boran, Mag Dietmar Heck and Dr Kristina Venturini-Köck, who have supported him throughout the time since his daughter was released.

Lawyer Dietmar Heck said: "After going through the vast amount of material that has come to light one has to come to the conclusion, that Mr Koch has a good chance to prove Mr Holzapfel's involvement. We believe there is sufficient evidence to prove that Mr Holzapfel at the very least knew that his best friend, with whom he reportedly worked in the garden of his house in Strasshof with an excavator just before the kidnapping, was holding Natascha against her will - and did absolutely nothing to end her ordeal. By failing to act he extended the suffering of Natascha and her parents for more than 8 years. Mr Koch spent almost all his time and the little money he had searching in vain for his daughter."

The legal case on paper is about compensation for the suffering but Mr Koch stressed he did not care about the money - he said he did not believe justice had been done, he wanted to have the evidence tested in a court of law. He said he hoped the answers would bring him and his daughter closure on the subject - and a chance to move on.

He said: "I heard today that the justice ministry is planning to investigate the case again. However, given the track record so far, I intend to press ahead with the civil case.

"Her freedom has brought no release for any of us, far from it, there are more unanswered questions now than there were in 2006 and as Natascha's father I am now no longer prepared to allow this situation to go on.

"Whatever the outcome of that case one thing is already certain - whatever the circumstances, my daughter was and is the biggest victim. She should not be criticised for any of her statements or her actions made since her release. We hope this case will bring her, and us, final closure."

The government ordered an investigative committee to look at the case again which is set to hear the last witnesses this week, but the committee chairman Werner Amon has now announced in advance that he shares the view that there was not just a single kidnapper - and that others were involved.

Austrian media said that although the final report has not been handed over the new investigation was now a foregone conclusion after a statement from Amon.

He said: "Anybody who was hoping that our report would be the final chapter will be disappointed. That is something I can categorically rule out."

He said that the only question was how, adding: "We will either recommend that prosecutors look at it again or get new experts in to re-evaluate the evidence - but it will not now be dropped. There is a huge list of points that have just not been properly looked at."

He also claimed that he had not been given all of the evidence in the case.

TLDR

wolfgang priklopril kidnapped a ten year old girl and kept her in a basement for nine years. the girl (now a woman) escaped, and Priklopril supposedly killed himself. Examination of the body proved this to be false. The police have long suspected that Priklopil had an accomplice. the best friend admitted to police that he knew of the abduction for a short time near the end, and told no one. He was also the last person to see Priklopril alive before the "suicide". There was also a suicide note, that did not match Priklopril's handwriting.

the former staff in charge of this investigation was found to have withheld evidence that showed that, they didn't follow leads in finding the girl. The head police chief of this operation shot himself in the head over the scandal.

no, they found his body and thought that. when they inspected it, they found that his neck had been cut clean, no train damage.

Lol. Well, he deserved it for not training his pet better.

he deserved that for taking someones life from them. Near the end, I think that she had trained him. Psychologist and police have said that Natascha is an expert negotiator, and excels at manipulation.

Yea, how do you think she learned? She was 10 when she was taken.

So, if she did have him trained, it's likely he wasnt the one pulling the strings at all. Perhaps, he was merely her minder and his strings weren't being pulled solely by natascha. Unless she's exceptionally intelligent.

Also, I suppose you could say that's true. However, if it's acceptable to take a life (regardless of circumstances) then it is acceptable to take a life regardless of circumstances.

Actually she's very intelligent and was a well read child even before the kidnapping. Actually she started out with no power and learned these skills from years of negotiation with her captor. he would do things such as cut off all light, food, and even changed her name to dehumanize her. When she got a bit older, he was in love with her and even had plans to marry. Something also odd, they did have sexual relations sometime after puberty, she claims that it was consensual.

That shits so jarring to really think about. Imagine being cut off from light and having no control over it.

I doubt he loved her. He was maybe infatuated/obsessed. Who knows. I dont know if the kind of person who would do that can actually love someone.

he did that often. leaving a ten year old in a completely pitch black and quiet basement for hours and sometimes days. when she got uppity, he would cut the food rations.

it was odd. he was a loner who was obsessed with his bad looks. he actually almost had a nose job, but used that money to build his dungeon. In his mind, he was raising a perfect Austrian house wife. She did the chores, cooked, and he even made her dye her dark hair blond.

Do you have any pictures of him?

What I find most troubling about a lot of these cases is how it took huge mistakes (and in this case initiative from the girl) for them to be caught. Police work never lead to it.

Also, I know this is kind of horrible to say, but I feel like this is the biggest waste. Like, considering how she escaped, it makes me feel a lot more compassion for her than say. Elizabeth Smary (who I feel almost none for. I think because she comes off as a robot to me. Shes always dressed so creepy).

I have a major problem with the Elizabeth Smart case and her as a person.

He looks fine. I'm guessing women found the creep factor to be the deal breaker, not his nose.

People aren't good at self evaluation.

another weird thing about this case. when he first snatched the child, he drove to the woods and began making frantic phone calls. he said to her "they're not coming", before taking her to his home. Priklopril rarely worked but was known by friends and natascha to always have cash and nice new vehicles.

Unless she was ever rented out to anyone, what was the purpose? Who would pay someone to kidnap a kid only to never do anything with her?

Is it known it was faked? He could have slit his own throat. They can usually tell from the cut (I know from dexter and svu).

People love conspiracies, but there needs to be a purpose. If it doesn't make sense, in always skeptical. I dont discount it, but I need more evidence.
