Please clarify the terms you are using. Do you mean country as in geographical area? or nation that is without its own state?

Not sure if you would be allowed to do this, but you could study historical groups like tribes and cavemen. They didn't have a state but still flourished.

Another issue is terms like "state," "country," and "nation" can be culturally relative terms. In geography they teach that every country, state, and city has clear borders that we define just for the sake of being able to teach geography, when in fact it's not always clear cut.

Humans have a tendancy to organize complex societies and adhere to cultural traditions. You could view hunter/gather groups as many thousands of mini proto-states.

Depends on how you differentiate a hierarchy from a state, I guess.
You could argue that they weren't quite states since they didn't have enshrined laws- just norms and values that dictated their behaviour.
Regardless, it's an interesting debate.

You make a good point, and it is an inreresting debate. I think that more than anything "statelessness" require lots of elbow room. Population density contributes to the need for a "state."
