I played Fallout 3 for at LEAST a few hundred hours. With mods, of course.
I haven't played Mass Effect 3 yet, so that is why I made the poll.

Yeah, but it also got retconned by DLC (that required installing a patch that broke EVERY FUCKING MOD GODDAMMIT IT STILL PISSES ME OFF JUST THINKING ABOUT IT. FUCK YOU, PATCH 1.5), but unlike Bethesda, Bioware gave/is giving the ending DLC away for free.

Fallout 3 was retconned, but at least it gave you a damn ending either way. Bioware would easily charge for the ending DLC if they could get away with it.

It was an ending for a game that didn't really "need" an ending. And it was such an anticlimactic fuckfest, too.

I doubt anybody actually plays F3 for the storyline alone. The fun is in the side quests. And most of the DLC is cool, too, although The Pitt was retarded.
Mass Effect 3 is a lot more linear and story-driven: people will actually care about THAT game's ending.

Of course not. My point is that the game shouldn't have ended after you finished the main quest.
And on the discussion of F3's DLC, I'd have to disagree with you. I quite liked The Pitt, but Operation Anchorage was just a load of CoD bullshit.

Fair enough. I bought the Game of the Year edition for my Windows machine, so I guess it never bothered me. > And on the discussion of F3's DLC, I'd have to disagree with you. I quite liked The Pitt, but Operation Anchorage was just a load of CoD bullshit.
Eh, to each his own; Anchorage was kinda boring, but the loot you get at the end kicks ass, and it's kinda nice not to have to repair your equipment every five minutes.

For me it's Mass Effect 3, it's just a badly made ending. Plot holes and 3 near-identical endings. Major let-down.
Though having said that, I'm very excited for the ending extension DLC. It's more closure and explanations without them simply conjuring up completely new endings.
@309,476 (HaikerensGuide !0VegJ9Jl.Q)
To be fair, Broken Steel wasn't a huge retcon. The only two changes to original continuity being an added dream sequence when the memorial is activated and the option to tell one of your companions to do it.
They did well to keep their original stuff intact. Though, as advi said, maybe that's easier to do in FO3 since it's less linear and such.

I really didn't buy Fallout 3 for the story, I played it simply because it was a fun shooter. The ending didn't make me angry, I just started at a previous save and continued doing whatever it was I did before I beat the game.
Mass Effect 3 on the other hand. I read about all the hype about endings being "unique" to each player. I had heard before that the ending was bad, but I figured that it was just some gamers who were angry they didn't get a happy ending. So I bought it and played through. Got to the end, saw the godchild and picked the reddestroy ending. It didn't bother me, I figured that was "my" ending. Then I played again, only this time I picked the green synthesis ending. It was the same, the exact god damn same, choose your color, Shepard dies, relays blow up, Normandy crashes on some jungle planet half my team walks out of the ship. Old guy talks to kid about some shit about space travel. Rinse and repeat.

You obviously give EA too much credit, they would have charged $10 if they thought they could get away with it.

I know that. My point is that Bethesda charged $10 for a better ending and got away with it. To be fair, they did give quite a lot of extra content in the DLC.

The part about the Normandy is kinda troubling. Why is the Normandy so far away anyway? Joker fled the battle? Also, when some of your squad gets out with him, it can be ones who were just fighting alongside you. Bizarre.
Hopefully the ending DLC will explain that stuff.

Because of the extra content, It wasn't just "clarifying" the existing ending like what Bioware is doing. Would you pay $10 dollars for a few cut scenes and a slideshow?
