Optical media is a lot more cost-effective than cartridges, and digital distribution will be commonplace long before other physical media can replace it.

When solid state memory becomes cheaper than optical media, then "cartridges" will sort of make a comeback, but I'm not sure if you'd still refer to an SD card as a very small "cartridge." You get the idea. There are already lots of games we store on our hard drives or flash media, so it's not that much of a long shot.

Sure, but the "cartride" will only be some kind of cryptographic key restricting access to the cluster of servers the game software actually runs on.

I R no expert on Oil good for this or that. My reply was Generic in nature. I used to consult for one ARCO refinery but that was all about instrumentation and long ago. Wish I had learned more about Crude in general. Its all distillation and frankly my personal interests were more about distilling Booze.

Hope not. The inherent (and obvious problem) is that you need an internet connection to access your data. If your internet goes down at all, you're screwed.
Also, the company running the cloud could be careless. Big companies have been hacked and had their customer data stolen before. Hopefully there'd be top-notch security, but it's still a concern.

Yea but honestly if you look at state of technology is all about the Cloud. Sure its not puuuuurfect but what is? Every company I work with and they are huge HUGE - Top of the top - Its all about the Cloud now.
Net down? Wifi - No access to either? Cell - No access to that? Space connection which is most of what I do for a living. Hummmmmmm now that I think about it- Space Cloud hummmmmmmmm I have been working beyond the Cloud for many years now.
