I buy a phone, but it's obsolete within a year. I need to buy a phone capable of 3G, and then I hear 4G is coming soon.

I already got to use 4G on the sensation I had for a week... and I'm living in the 3rd world according to minichan...
Anyway, it could go forward even faster, but that wouldn't be that profitable... for example, why adapt a factory to produce superior OLED Tv's and "waste money on that" (that technology was ready years ago...) when you can keep melking the LCD/plasma cow...

No doubt back in black and white tv days people wanted the set to update to color.
My work is all about 3G 4G and wayyyy beyond technology. I understand why you want what you want. 2G? TDMA and CDMA are now old technologies and the cost plus headaches of keeping them going means keeping old very old equipment in cell sites as well as power/heat issues is just out of the question.
In this business the spectrum demand, far outranks what is really practical - Marketing keeps selling the public on data rates that are far beyond what is practical with current technology so technology is always behind. Its good for the economy and my wallet but honestly in the cell business - far too many people with far too many needs and no spectrum to accommodate, so technology is pressed to compress more more and more into what is available . Let you in on a secrete - If you look at what Verizon and AT&T are spending in new technology and they know its already obsolete - Well I could go on a write a book about this.
Now back to work making this all work for space for those with lots of cash to spare.

Up until a few years ago b&w still worked and still does on a few old cable systems with a box.
The 2G is not a case of you being ripped off. If it were I would tell you so. I made big $ recently helping DOJ by keeping AT&T from buying out T-Mobile - That was a very bad deal for the public and would have been a rip off of current T-Mobile customers after a couple of years. (AT&T is still a client and just this week was ranked as the 2nd 3rd worst company in USA) Wish they would stop giving me assignments!!! I hate hate hate them.
4GLTE (Long term evolution) or for fun I call it 4G light - buttttt ya know 5G and 6G are just around the corner. Again the problem is - Airwaves are not like hard wired cable or even better Fiber Optic allll the way directly to your home - Over the air will never be able to get close to pure fiber end to end.
So sure get angry with me, but its the public that was pushed to buy technology and keep on buying new versions because Spectrum is finite ---If getting mad at me will take some of the stress off of ya then sure enjoy. (Currently Netflix should be who u b mad at for gobbling air space and even the net.

Quick look at web - Walmart has Toss away phones from $18 - $50 and of course you can buy more air time and just toss the phone away for new technology as it comes up. If you hit the web you can even figure out what carrier they use so you can stay with best technology as it develops. Treat the cell phone like food and cut the intake or be able 2 afford the fat & consequences.

Just to clarify: obsolete doesn't mean "a newer, better product came out". It means that support was dropped for old product, or the old product doesn't integrate with the new product, or the old product no longer works.
For example: Pokemon. GSC did not make RBY obsolete. However, RSE made the first two gens obsolete.
